These are from Saturday! Can you believe it's been 4 weeks? I'm hoping some of these pictures are good enough for Illia to tell us cockerel or pullet - and why you know they are what they are! Its exciting to learn!

Here is broody-molting Juno. She has since lost her last two tail feathers and more wing feathers, but I don't think it lessens her ability to care for her chicks. She just looks funny & unkept.

Everybody plus Auntie Henrietta. If one of the pullets got that close...oh boy there would be trouble!

This was just a sweet picture

They've all learned to roost - and they all knock each other off - very amusing

And here are the "sexing" photos for Illia. I believe with EEs you are looking at the feather pattern? So here's lots of chickie back

If Echo and Alpha are the same - They're boys.

Charlie is a boy.

Bravo is likely a girl, Delta might be too but there's a 50/50 chance on it so far.

Another week and I'll be very sure.

My chickens are mad at me today;

They did not get to free-range. It squalled all day, the yard is a muddy mess, and there is a big raccoon hanging out in the yard eating the grapes that are climbing the hemlock tree.

I don't own a gun - I'd let my dogs out to get it, but I'm afraid they will run down the hill to the cranky neighbor with the horses and the little snack-sized dogs that run loose. A 6 foot fence won't stop my dogs when they are after something - Willow is old and arthritic, so it may stop her, but Shasta can clear it no problem when she wants something enough (and later she won't be able to get back in the yard).

Dang raccoons. I trid to get the one with my car last night, but was not quite fast enough. Don got one on his motorcycle when we lived in Woodinville, he did not even lose his balance! Avondale Road Pizza (after it killed my cat).

Ah...I just saw your post that said six weeks. That makes sense - their feathers changed a lot in the last couple weeks. I tried following them around and getting pics of each one today - didn't work LOL I'll have to wait until bedtime & take their pics one at a time in a week or two.

thank you! dawn
