That'll help a lot; I'm going to try to keep a good log of photos of these five, especially, just to document what they look like at different stages; of course Candy's hen's are all pretty similar, so I'm prepared for different-looking chicks growing up to be pretty uniform looking adults.

One thing that amuses me is how much Quinca looks like pictures I've seen of BLRW chicks, so much so that I double checked which eggs had hatched after I got a good look at her (she says optimistically). And how much they've grown in a single day!

The eagles came back this afternoon. They had been gone all summer. The two adults that roost in the neighbor's big snag were hunting over the pond. Then three juveniles came over and seemed to be eyeing my birds. I had to entice them into their run for safety. They were very mad at me when I shut the door, but I'd rather have them mad and alive. I've watched the adults hunt ducks on the water to know a chicken would be light enough to carry off too.

On the plus side, the two hawks that have been hanging around took off and didn't come back.

Oh- moulting chickens: Maggie is growing her feathers back. There's a line of pinfeathers across the base of her tail that look like the kind of horrible brushes Crayola packs with their watercolors- hilarious! Have to try to photograph them tomorrow, today I was too busy trying to make things a little drier in their run.

I don't think that you have had the privilege of having the little dog sit in your lap. I will have to see if I can arrange that next time your here.

PS You'll be okay he has lost 4 more pounds. He only weighs 106lbs now.

Charlie, the cat, is hiding under the bath tub. If we drag him out (gently of course), he goes back as soon as we stop petting him. Could he be sick or in pain? I've never had cats.

That is terrible!

I have not ordered mine yet - got caught up with other stuff, but I need to order them soon. I am going to try and find where I ordered mine from last year, because the ones I had were great; no holes. I'm also debating if I should get a big one that I can stretch over a frame for a quick greenhouse.

Nope, he took care of that the last time.

Well, last week I slathered baby oil on the leather insides of my Ariat barn shoes and shoe grease on the outside, and this morning they were leaking by the time I made it to the Hamburg run. So I regretfully admitted that I was going to have to spend money on work shoes (not boots: I still have a couple pairs of lace-up boots but when it's muddy I want shoes I won't have to lace and unlace to keep mud out of the house) and found a pair of men's 8W Justin's for an OK price on Amazon. They won't be leather lined but at least they should keep the wet out. And I did buy those shoes well into the previous millenium.

I tried wearing my sister's Muck shoes for a day but they don't have sufficient support. In my next incarnation I want B width feet, (redacted detailed wish for smaller bra size), and good teeth: I'd be much richer right now if I wasn't paying for those three little imperfections.

The chicks are cute, although my daughter's wish to stay home and snuggle them instead of going to work is problematic.

I found that it only takes one really big dog with itchy skin, to be able to acquire that coveted Phd degree in backside scratching. I think it make take working on several smaller dogs with nasty skin issues to get the same degree of experience. As far as I can tell you are well on your way to that all important Phd degree.
