I think it is in the Beef Pavillion on the fairgrounds from 9:00 to 2:00?

A poultry show is where the birds are judged for type, according to the American Standard of Perfection, which lists the ideal qualities of each breed of poultry. So there should be a lot of nice quality birds on display, as well as good breeders on hand. They usually have a section with birds for sale as well as a raffle set up for whatever people donate as raffle items. These items can vary a great deal.

Kids can also enter their birds and do showmanship, similar to 4-H Poultry events.

HTH!

We could literally see the tendon slipping over the hock, and the leg would bend at the knee joint so it looked broken, but it wasn't. It sure didn't look comfortable to me, but the chick didn't seem to be in much pain and still tried to get around on it. You would never know it today. By wrapping it, it held the tendon in place and it took, luckily for us! Yes, I don't think from what you posted that that is what your little guy has.

BrisingrBubba, does he want large fowl or bantam cochins? I don't have any at the moment, but have over 2 dozen bantams in the incubator. Hatch day is April 2nd. We have 16 Blue/Black/Splash eggs, so I might have some to spare next month. I'll post how the hatch goes and let me know if you are interested.

Either(standard, bantam), prefferbly hens, or pairs and trio

I think the poultry show is free there is also a quilting show going on and they are charging $7 but I think you pay that at the door, didn't look like they are charging for parking this week end and it is only saturday for the poultry. I went to a train show the begining of Feb. and it was in the horse arena, they were charging at the door and no pay for parking, I think it's the same thing this time.

Wow, sorry about your hen, justbugged. I hope your hatches turn out well. Is there anyway to keep the broodys from straying too far from their nests? If they can't go far, maybe they won't leave for too long?

@Eagle - I'm really sorry to hear about your job. That bites. Hopefully something better will come along soon.

I got the chicks off of craigslist. The lady was selling hatching eggs, and I contacted her about getting eggs in the future (I don't have an incubator) and she just happened to have chicks hatching that day. She said she got her birds from Cree - so now I'm wondering, is there anyone in washington state with BCMs that *don't* go back to Cree? lol I'm hoping they'll be nice birds when they're grown. I didn't have the opportunity to see the sellers birds, and I'm kind of kicking myself for it. Not that I'd know what to look for if I had, anyway, though.

You all talking about the poultry show makes me want to go. I've never been, and I don't know that I'd ever get into showing my own, but it might be nice to do it once or twice - I might learn something! Going to this one could give me an idea of what to expect should I ever decide to show mine, too. I have so much to get done around the house, though - decisions, decisions...

Are the chicks at the show generally a better quality than the feed stores?

I don't think there is any guarantee that there will be chicks at the show. Only whatever people participating in the show choose to bring to sell.
There may be some, there may not be.

But if there are, yes, for the most part, I would think they would be better quality than hatchery stock, especially if the people selling are breeding for show quality birds and cull out those that aren't a good representation of type.

Hatched last March--from Holderread's stock. He's smooth-breasted and has some stiff wing feathers. But he's very sweet (although does not care for my husband or the dogs!) he LOVES me and follows me around in the yard. I ended up with TWO males and ONE female the last hatch (last spring) so he needs to go...he's getting the crap beat out of him by my other gander and so I moved him in with the pied 'scovies and now that drake is hammering on him, too.

I was asking $125 then I lowered it to $100 and then to $75. Which is less than it would cost for a gosling from Holderread's. I was going to keep him and work on lavender sebbies but I just don't have room for him right now and hubby is refusing to build me another pen until I have paid for the last chicken coop remodel....LOL SO sadly, I need to sell this little guy.

I can deliver him to the show if he's pre-paid (I've boxed up ducks, geese, chickens before and traveled to Oregon and had folks not show and not return calls)--so everything is going to be pre-paid from now on! LOL

aherm. . . I just. . . Paid $163.00 for a dozen Tolbunt Polish eggs!!!!! I'm crazy and proud of it!!! I can't wait... !!

I would like to try to make it. It depends a little on how 'outstanding' the weather turns out to be. My presence may be required at home to participate in yard work if we've got a really great day.

I'm on Whidbey Island so it's a bit of a trek, but I'd be so curious to see what there is to see. I do the fair thing at Monroe every few years, so I'm fairly confident I can find it.
