Reber Ranch is right around the corner from where I work and they are a really great place to get all kinds of stuff including chicks. You can go on there website and they have complete lists of the chicks that they will be getting in and when! They just never have enough ducklings! They only order 30-40 a week for 2 weeks and they don't last more than 20 minutes before they are gone! I have always found the staff very helpful but I still can not talk them into ordering me a couple runners!

Anyone have any black runner ducklings!!!!????('

WHY did you have to say that?? I was hoping for a moment you meant a breeder with Brahmas. . . grr. I don't think I will ever go to a feedstore, as I'll never go to a hatchery. Desperately on the hunt for real Brahmas, though.

No, but my Saxony Runner has just started sitting on a batch of eggs that are from her, my little blue Runner and my splash? Runner (dad is a dark blue from Holderread's). I wasn't quite ready for this, but guess I'll let her give it a try and see how things go. My Silkie (chicken) has slipped a couple of her eggs in the nest as well, guess I'll be removing those.

Does RainPlace have anything in the works or are things still too up in the air with her neighbors complaints.

We're trying to figure out what is wrong but we aren't real good at chick anatomy yet. We've been searching on the web for possibilities and reading. Thanks for the links. We had found the one but not the others.

We will try the feet tape and leg spraddle/sling and see if that helps (if we can find the pipe cleaner stem thingys, we think we have some somewhere in the boys' stuff)

WA-4Hpoultry mom, How did you figure out it was slipped tendon? We don't think it is that as it seems to stretch out it's legs.

Zgoatlady, what vitamins do you suggest?

I had read somewhere (reading too many site right now to say where) that it was ok to give them children's vitamins. So we gave it some of that but we didn't see a change but we'll keep trying it. We also saw somewhere to give it vitamin D but I don't have any so we will have to get some.

Thanks

I'm in a sharing mood tonight. I hope you guys don't mind.

My newest babies:

And eggs from the big girls. They're a little shiny because I just hard boiled them. The one that looks white is really pale beige. I have no idea where it came from. Usually I get 2 browns, one pinkish beige, and a green, then one day this was in there. I know one of them laid it - there are no other chickens around.

Those brown ones aren't from you BC's, right? . . .

I have 4 days left until my BC, Wheaten, and Blue Wheaten Marans hatch. . . . SO excited!! (along with them are some Ameraucanas, some EE crosses, and one NHR )

Haha, I didn't even realize that's how it sounded until I just reread what I wrote. No - I only have the baby BCMs, the eggs are from 2 Buff Orpingtons and 2 EEs - aka "the big girls." I will be so sad if my marans lay eggs that color.

How exciting for your hatch! I was going to ask you to please share pictures, but I have a funny feeling you'd be doing that anyway.

What breed of chicks are you looking for?

BrisingrBubba!
My son joined a 4-H racing pigeon club this year. He is renovating an unused shed into a loft, recently won one of the breeding pairs donated to the club by a retiring racer, and is getting young birds soon (all the kids in the club are getting donated young birds from some wonderfully generous racers). Are you racing young birds this summer? Since you are so far away we probably won't run into you at an event though.

ChristinaMae I love the pictures of your babies. I have eggs under the broody girls. (due in 2 weeks) I don't know if anything will come from them. I went to check on the ladies today and found a number of rather unsettling things. The broody girls were not on their eggs. I think they were out scamming on the chicken crack that I had just put out for the girls in the run. Though I checked the eggs and they felt rather cool. So now I am beginning to wonder if that is part of my low hatch rate. I have 2 chicks that are thriving in the brooder right now. They look like they are Bard Rocks with feathered feet. So I think that means that they are mutts.

The other disturbing thing was that one of my Welsummers dead in the very back corner of the coop. She looked like she had a broken neck. But she could have died from almost anything. These things seem to happen when I am home alone. Oh well that is enough whining from me. Welcome to all the new people on the thread.

PS Gwendolyn there are a number of people on this thread that are located up your way. It may take a bit but they are with us here.
