Yep, and just remember that bleach is light sensitive, so you will either need to use an opaque spray bottle, cover the spray bottle with something dark, or re-make the solution every 12 hours or so for it to retain its full efficacy.

Bleach is light sensitive? There's something else interesting I didn't know. This place is a wealth of information, facts and opinions. One of these days I'm going to get around to making some of CL's suggested bleach solution. I actually bought the bleach, but just don't have an empty gallon jug around here. Something simple like that will stop me.

The ratio is equal to 1/4 cup bleach in a pint of water, or 2 tablespoons in a cup.

Shoot I wish he wasn't so far away. I have way of getting wood. I have already made DH share some fire wood with a neighbor. I want a wood stove, but with the economy going the way it is, I don't know if I will be able to get one anytime soon. I just want a small free standing stove.

I want a small freestander also, it will be,

a busy thread, interesting,

Actually I just arrived from MI, I was up in the Yukon a few winters ago , great place, I think this eastern Wa area looks much like the area up there that I was in.

Right now my main interest and work is the Icelandic Chickens, I have a long time interest in heritage RIRs, Orpingtons, Wyandottes and other heritage LF.

Hi Jake,
Welcome to the Wash. thread and to Washington!
I have family up near you in Evans (Kettle Falls). If you'd grown up in that area you might know them, but not as a new-comer. It sounds like you have some challenges before winter, what's at the top of your list?

The HUGE national show is in a couple weeks so many exhibitors that usually come were not there. Due to the Crossroads show, it was much smaller than normal.

...and what's wrong with silkies?????
wink.png

Yeah, what's wrong with silkies? Of all my chickens, my silkie is the sweetest and most reliable egg layer. Just yesterday my daughter and I decided that we like the silkies best of all. I want another and I would love a frizzle.

My Silkie Miss Inky always has something rude to say to me. She is my Chatty Cathy of the flock. I think she can cuss me better than Larry the Hummingbird. At least Miss Inky hasn't tried to kill me yet. One that makes 2 for Larry, and 0 For Miss Inky. It's a good thing I must love these cranky like beasties, because they do know how to call me names.

vaseline is useful too -- it holds moisture in the skin, and is slightly toxic to fungus ... as are most petroleum-derived gooey things; it is suspected of being the actual healing agent in those "triple antibiotic" ointments, though not listed as an active ingredient (and that is also why Neosporin ointment often works better than any of the generics; the base ointment seems to be the difference, not the antibiotics, which are identical)

Now there's a simple solution to the solution issue. A smaller container. You're a smart girl. Thank you.

Okay I haven't read everyone else's posts yet, but I had tobacco work. I had to buy pipe tobacco and then wet a little and keep it on the spot. It actually worked and got rid of the fungus. I have battled with ring worm off and on every since Miss Gabby came live with us. I seem to have at least one puppy in each little that gets it really bad, this explains why I still have 2 of the older pups. They do get over it, but it has been a real pain to get it under control. The Lamsil oral has also been very effective, but the creams and sprays have never seemed to work. The oral stuff is just very hard on your liver. I hope you recover very quickly.

Use a cotton ball, and spray it with the bleach solution.
Solution:
2 cups household bleach in an empty clean milk jug, LABEL it with a sharpie pen.
Fill with water.
Dump into an empty spray bottle & use for all sorts of clean ups: toilets, counters 9especially after cutting up meat) dish drainers, dish washers or what ever.
Dab the spot every so often.
Alcohol on a cotton ball also works, but burns and takes a bit longer to kill off.

Then hydrogen peroxide should work too? Basically anything that kills germs without killing the host? The vet had me use Captan on the dogs. I had mixed success with it. I don't think that it's recommend by any source as safe for humans.
