So, you're saying I need to find some horse tranquilzer so I can catch her and rub her legs, eh?

Seriously: I caught the other two in one try, and spent the rest of the afternoon chasing her up and down the run. She is fast, whiley, and anti-social. And I seriously resent being out-smarted by a two-and-a-half-pound chicken.

Silly, go out at night when they are roosted..grab them right up.......or as I do: First thing in the morning when it is still dark out..they are much easier to catch!!!

Note addendum to the post you quoted. However, having been out there at full dark tonight and gotten the run-around, I'm still considering horse tranquilizers. Or maybe gin, I hear tell chickens like sloe gin fizzes.

I know how you feel. When I start to paint, I can't stop. Most Glorious Spousal Unit has to wait for food. Sometimes I paint through the night. I am lucky, totally ambidextrous, and can paint with both hands at once! Don't' do it often, unless it's the same colour paint.

And CL, painting is a lot less stress than chickens!

So dear CL, all this work you are doing to make it to the show, how are you holding up with the leg and all? Please, PLEASE be careful - I really want to meet you! Don't do anything to screw things up. Keep yourself well.

AND I totally cleaned 4 coops out today, ALL the bedding & one the nest straw too...........that is the Java coop, the buckeye coop, the Cou Cous coop (cuckoo marans) and the Amer-Turkey coop.
DH ran the wheel barrow, I scrapped, shoveled into the barrel & drug in fresh shavings.
Cool to get work done again however slow.
It takes me forever to get anywhere!
Thanks for asking, I am exhausted now..going to bed soon, getting up early so I can shave my LEG and go see Dr Boney..................

Hope it's good news ttmorrow at the Doc's!

Hello! Just checking in! Your roo is gorgeous! 4321, you might want to snatch this guy up for your lav orp project. Unfortunately, I'm up to 4 orp roo's, so can't take him. Did you end up getting any offspring from Hoss? Is this black roo his son?

We're dealing with red mites here, as well. Not sure where the heck they came from, but so far its only on two of our bantam cockerels. The ladies are all fine, so we're keeping them together for now.

Each is being treated with oil mixed with Tea Tree Oil, got a magnificent bite from one of them for my tender care, too. Both will be treated again +10 days from first application.

We're also sprinkling DE about the pen and the birds. Next up will be Ivermectin on payday. We're also setting up new dust baths with sand and DE for the chickens, so they can self-administer.

I've got a broody hen in that pen that I'm keeping a good eye on. I may have to move her and treat her prophylacticly.

Good luck!

For leg mites, cover the legs with vaseline. It smothers them. Or WD-40 or Vet Rx.

Your Orp boy is pretty - hope you find a home that will appreciate him. I'll bet that English Splash roo is good looking too. If I had more room and wasn't in the city I'd like to raise the English Orps (and Faverolles and Ameraucanas and Marans and...) Good to hear from you again - hope we get to visit at the Monroe show this year!

I have two Hoss sons, blue and splash, and one pullet thats black. this big black boy is from some decent exhibition lines out of cle elum, his dad was a 75%english splash out of a really nice hen from cle elum. he is really nice, friendly. he had a hurt leg when a chick so I would carry him around the yard, move him where ever the other chickens were of food and water etc. he is terrified of Larry the serama too lol. he would put some size and shape on some lavender birds I am sure.
hows things up on your hill? I wave every time I go by lol
