One thing I did that got me some business - I put flyers up on Asian markets' bulletin boards or windows (with the owners' permission of course.) We also offered the market owners a discount on birds for referrals and allowing us to advertise. All of the Asians we now know, and are repeat customers, prefer live birds. We have had some referrals from customers too.
We have also put flyers up in Del's, but only sold rabbits that way.

Also, pictures help! Either live birds (use your biggest birds) or nicely presented cooked. If you want the Asian market, make sure you present it the way they would eat it. If I were going for the French market, I would do "confit". . .know your market and play to it

Maybe another place to advertise would be Asian churches? Might be looking for nice big birds for celebrations, church suppers, etc.

well, here, and even in the Tri cities, we have a small asian population, now, what I am thinking about are the few Asian restaurants we have. If I took a business card there, with a small flyer of the birds I have maybe they would be interested? ..... hm.... got to get the thinking cap on!!

I see a few females in that picture of the 'scovies....

You do??? jeez... Terry and I went through them all and picked out the biggest ones that looked like males?? Some of them are much bigger than their moms? Man, I don't want to sell the hens, well, not up there anyway. Can you send me a pm and give me a better idea of what to look for?? I do have 4 pied hens in there, cause I'm getting out of pieds, are you saying you see them in the silvers and others too?

Well, if you are ever up this way, let me know - always got wine to share
big_smile.png

The deboning stuff, well, Jacques Pepin shows how in a 10 minute video on You-Tube (and no waste!)

Yeah, second glass of wine waits until AFTER knife work!

I'm spending Saturday night with Jbear et. al and we are planning to enjoy a glass of wine- in fact at the show or banquet I do believe there will be a wine raffle/auction. It was very successful at a previous show and so much fun. I'm trying to decide what to bring wine wise....

Thanks for the link! I will try it out next time I butcher, which is usually a couple of times a month.

On thanksgiving we enjoyed some K Vinters Syrah that was quite nice.

I am one of those that are staying with Jbear too...but unfortunately because of tummy issues cannot have wine. I will be having some sort of caffeine though tomorrow...got a migraine tonight.

When you get to I-5 go North. You will be getting on at 68 and you want to take exit 79. then did ya see the directions I posted from fwy to fair grounds?

yep that's why I was asking, I wasn't sure where I came out on 5, thanks, actually I'm looking at hotels right now, I have feeling I'm going to be there all weekend! Especially after I spoke to CL tonight !! LOL! Thanks man!

I figure I'll try to be there around noonish.

Excellent - thank you. I figure that's about what time I'll be arriving myself, with or without DH in tow. If I DO bring him, I just want to warn everyone - he's a character. He's a very smart, sweet, well intentioned man with no filter and lacking any refined social skills. It's just the way he was born. All of us who know him well understand this and have decided to keep him anyway.

I'm just letting you know, please don't be offended by anything he says - he doesn't always realize what he's doing!

I am so glad I get to attend this year - looking forward to seeing everyone and their chickens!

Sadie.. you need to meet MY hubby.. no filters either.

Ok so now I'm freaked out cause RFF said she saw hens in my drake pic!!
rant.gif
Dang it! I just want to take the drakes!! So, now back to the drawing board, I'll have to take another look at them and see if I can tell whos who! They are all different ages, so it's the pits trying to figure out he/she.
