Shut off power, drain the tanks, unscrew the elements & inspect & replace.
One would think (the first time I did that was helping Dad clean up a rental when I was ten or eleven) but this is a sealed unit: neither sacrifice rod nor heater elements are replaceable. It was also the only one that would fit in the hot water tank nook in the house, and we had to cut out the door framing even then.
