I have a couple banty roos...but one is a frizzle and the other is brown, not black. I don't know what his coloring is called. It's pretty, though. I got them at a market here a few months ago. I like them, but I have lots of chicks right now, too. At least the 2 of them only really count for 1 regular chicken as far as space goes... hehe

New Duckling Update!

Talked to the guy at the hatchery!!! They don't actually breed the ducklings there. They had them shipped from a different hatchery! That hatchery SWEARS that they shipped them Monday. No tracking number. Of course! So the guys says "well I guess they are lost and dead somewhere" OMG! I could have killed him!'

' He then proceeds to tell me that the feed store only had 20 assorted ducklings on the order. NO RUNNERS!

Why do people LIE!!!'

'

So moving on....LOoraine has soooo kindly offered me 2 of her blacks that she just hatched. '

Why are some people so cruel/bad/hurtful ?
So sorry for you !

and you stress out so bad and waste so much time...I hate that !!!

I have been thinking of all the color in the eggs you guys have been showing me, and I am really really getting the white/blue/green egg influenza !!!
I do believe that as my customers love all the different color eggs I sell them (so far brahma, cuckoo and BO, and soon to have BSMarans...) that is not very colorful, is it ?
But those minty green and baby blue and creamy white eggs look so cool in a carton, mixed !!!!!
I believe I will keep eyes open for 2 or 3 green and blue egg layers, and need guidence as they are not my forte.
I have not researched the big difference between Araucanas, Ameracaunas, and easter eggers (excuse the spelling here please)

I love the green and blue eggs though !

There is a house between here and Montesano, that we go sailing past every few days going to Aberdeen, that has lots of birds in the yard, and a few pens of ducks.
Some have caught my eye, jet black tall runner ducks with what appears to be a poof of feathers on top the head...what kind of duck is that ????
idunno.gif

They also have what looks like Minorcas, and lots of other ducks in pens...maybe I should stop some time and see if I can buy some eggs, you think ????
Actually, that sounds like a cool idea, and if I can get some, I will PM you T !!!!!
Seriously, a duck with a do ? Is there such a duck ?
I look each time we drive by and sure enough, there he/she is, poof ontop the head.
huh.

They are crested...it's a skull deformity I think...but it looks so darn cute, they are actually bred that way. My kids wanted some crested pekins, but I had to say no, too big for us. I wanted little egg layers, and particular kinds.

Pretty Eggs Illia!!

Just a quick update, my little lost eggies finally arrived today!!! I will probably pop them in the bator last thing before I go to bed tonight. I've also been saving some of our own that I'm throwing in for fun. I saw our little black bantam cochin rooster doing the deed the other day on one of our HUGE EE's. So I've been saving all the EE eggs this week to see what that combo looks like!!! We have 3 EE's, and I saw from a distance, so I don't know which hen it was!

Chickielady, I'm with you on the whole pretty eggs train of thought. This was supposed to be my last batch of hatching eggs this season, but somehow I have talked myself into doing one more batch sometime in May. I am getting lavender ameraucana's (both bantam and LF) as well as some Blue/BCM from local peeps down near Longview/Kelso. The lav's will be our first "pure" Ameraucana's, and I got them for being pretty on the outside and I hope their eggs will be pretty too! They come from the John Blehm line who is a well respected Ameraucana breeder, so hoping they are all that I'm hoping for! I'm also getting some blue/BC Maran eggs from PinkChick who posted some really pretty dark eggs on the Maran's thread.

We also have golden cuckoo's and golden cuckoo/BC crosses in the bator, but we got them for my daughter who LOVES the crele variety of birds, and she wanted some of the Golden Cuckoo's just because she liked the way they look. The crosses are a work in progress from the breeder we got them from, trying to darken up the egg color on the GC's, so we'll have fun with those.

Oh! Another cool thing, the guy my DH works with who has offered to take any birds we don't want, has offered to teach us how to process and my DH actually seems ok with it. This is a HUGE step for me, since we are now getting into breeding and hatching our own, as I imagine there will be LOTS of unwanted birds in the future, and DH has always poo-poo'ed the idea of processing them. So this should prove interesting!!!

4-Hpoultrymom, 'processing' ?
You mean butchering kind of processing ?
Find yourself a BIG enamel pot, bigger than a canner if possible, you will need it.
I also have a big propane burner that was for a turkey fryer a neighbor bought, fried 1 turkey at Thanksgiving and then wanted to toss it out.
I can put my big pot on the burner outside...no mess in the house.
Well, good luck.
It can be heartbreaking if you get attached to the 'victims'. but I wholly agree with what you are doing.
There is alternatives, which I think to be better as these birds are not the best to eat and plucking is horrid...
My idea also will pay for feed...take your unwanted birds to farmers market.
Then you have some cash...and fun, and clean hands, and no heavy heart.

I was wondering about Weavagarden...Cindy...how much was she selling her EE's ?

:Thanks, Illia, now I really want some, how about 6 ?
Are you hatching or selling eggs ?
Seriously !
And what is the deal with "olive eggers " ?
Do they really have olive eggs and what breed are these olive eggers ?
You are tormenting me.

My brown eggs look like mud now !
