One more qwik note. With this snow and ice be very careful of any PINE trees you may have. While fir, spruce, alder, maple etc will also lose limbs PINE trees are the worst for not being able to handle the cold and snow.

I just saw on the newsmost of our local schools are running 2 hours late.

Well so far it doesn't sound like the east side got much snow. I am about 1/2 way tween Portland and Seattle and we got 17"

No, we really didn't get the snow like you guys...we have the bitter cold and wind. Although they are calling for 4-8 inches by tomorrow morning...but this is more normal for us and we are sllightly more prepared.....meaning our side of the mtns is used to getting snow like this. Just yesterday we were talking about the last time the schools ran late or closed for a snow day - it has been years. But also, we are probably not going to get the freezing rain.

I should add, with the winds we are getting drifts. Comng home last night from wrestling match....our road (not driveway) was about half drifted over with a couple feet of snow in places. The wind was just wipping the snow across....it looks neat....but it piles up fast and you can't get around it. I am unsure what the status is this morning. Duck Lake Rd runs North-South and with the winds from the West....just piles it in the middle of the road.

Congrats on the PET scan results!!! =)

Hey all!
Well, we survived our EPIC snow/ice storm! 24 inches total. Came up over my knees.Spent 2 hrs digging our car out of the ditch(Yukon XL). DH was trying to beat the snow down in our driveway so that I could take the kids to their pian lessons. He couldn't see where the ditch was and ended up in it! It was sweet of him to think of me. Now, every time I move, I think of him!

Then we lost power but only for a day. Our power guys here are great and worked very hard in nasty/dangerous conditions to get our power back on.
Had a tree next to the house snap off and come crashing down! That was exciting!
And the best news was that my PET scan came back clear!!!
No bone cancer!
So I am back to just dealing with BC!
Hope every body is well!
Ill never get caught up so I just thought I'd better jump in where I was!

Ooh - I can just imagine the scene with all the hatching chicks! How amazing

Ya know I always say my phone is always on. See most of the time a text alert won't wake me so no big deal. But for some reason this morning when my phone went CRAZY with text I woke up! They started at 2:45am seven messages in a row and I replied. See It was Red Rooster she said her gen at 10:00pm thursday. She said she had eggs in her pockets for 35 hours now and they are still hatching! she was so surprised. I told her "see I told ya not to give up too soon. Now not to get personal but stuff yer bra" She said she had. She said she was trying everything now. She sent a pic of a little chick and 2 eggs looked like in a sweatshirt pocket. Now Anna has TRUE pocket chicks ! ! ! ! Let this be a lesson to us all. DON'T give up too soon.

Broody sooo happy to see you back and to hear the good news. Remember Anything Anytime ! ! !

Yes while I was talking to CL last eve I watched as one of my out buildings collapsed under the wet snow load. It was about 10'x20' had been a chicken coop many years ago but was most recently used for storage. I was telling CL about it as I watched and she said get out there and put some supports in it and push it back up! Nope not worth the risk of getting smashed under it. It will be easier to just salvage the what I can and start over.

Oh and FYI ! Am I upset at RRF for texting me at 2:45 NO WAY ! ! ! ! I was happy to hear that her (true) pocket chickens are still doing ok.
See if I was worried about my phone waking me then I should use the on / off switch and turn the dang thing off at night. Sorry but I have the outlook that if you don't want to get a call or text in the middle of the night then you should turn the phone off.
OK so now I am gonna try to get a few minutes nap before I go to work for the neighbour today. Ya all take care and I will be back later.

I would gladly help ya serve up a bunch on knuckle samitches ! ! ! !

I just got off the phone with a friend living in northern BC near the Alberta border.

He said that since early this morning the snow is nearly waist high and is still falling.
The temperature is dropping and is at about -10C and the north wind is increasing
to near gale force
.

His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare.

He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.

That gave me a Good little chuckle.

OK I am soooo ready to just lock the doors and we stay in the house until this cackle spackle is gone. See wednesday After I cleared the collapsed runs. I was working on getting everything hooked up for the generator. DW decided to try to check on the chickens. It had been about 10 minutes and for some reason I thought I better go check on her. I walked out and there she was laying in 17" of snow right in front of the first coop. I know she had been there the most of that ten minutes since that was the first place she went. She was ok just had fallen and couldn't get up. I got her up and all was ok.
Then yesterday Michelle ask me if I could take her tractor and pull her quad out of the muck. I walked out to the quad to look it over and as I turned to walk away my feet went away sideways. SPALOOSH down I went in slushy snow and about 10" of horse poo water. Do you have any idea how heavy insulated carhartt's and a carhartt coat get when they are soaked?
And just a few minutes ago I hear a truck. It sounded like the garbage truck that didn't come yesterday. SoIput my romeo's on to walk out to see. I know he will be coming back if it is. I get almost to the road and guess what yup never wear smooth bottom romeos in compact slush. Down I went. And it wasn't even the garbage it was a snow plow. Now they are getting serious. our road is bare and wet but he had a steel bit (they normally use thick hard rubber) and the sparks were really flying.

Hi guys !
How is everyone this morning ?
So far I see T-Hi has a generator but is out of gas but her power did come on late last night.
She said her sis & nephew are there too as their power was also out, so they all went out to hunt for gas.
Not many stations had power & were closed.
2 had power but she waited in line for over an hour at 1 & never got close to the station, so went to another station & waited 1 1/2 hrs and still never got close to the station so they came back home.
Hopefully her power does not go off again before she does get more gas.
Too bad ya can't siphon it out of a car !
We have the old ratmobile that does not have the saftey thingy on it so we can always sipon the 60 gallons of gas out of it.
DH filled the ratmobile up with fresh gas a few weeks ago..so it is storage.
Also, even though our van was stuck, can brush snow away from the tail pipe, start it up & get warm while charging the cell phones and listening to the news.
Do not forget to move the snow away from the tail pipe & you would not want to do this in an enclosed garage.
T-Hi carefully garaged her car when the storm started & still cannot get it out.
Hope next time she leaves it out & close to the road so she could get OUT, and at least sit in it to warm up.

We are going to try to get out of our driveway & into town today.
Don'e have to..but will give it a try.
We are uphill here so go downhill on the driveway & all the rain & snow melt has made the lower part of the driveway a slushy lake of quicksnow.
So far, no power flickering this morning.
