At my last contact with her at 6:14 pm last night she said they had no power but were holding thier own and were going to get the gen going in a bit for some heat. I will text her right now.

Thanks to this storm, I had to cancel a hatching egg order 2 days ago as egg production dropped on the Black Javas to 1 egg 1 day, maybe 2 the next day, somedays none.

That lost me $45.
Now today I am cancelling a hatching egg order for the Buckeyes, 1 hen is stubbornly broody, and the rest are giving me 1 egg a day, sometimes none, the next day 2...not fast enough production to save a doz in 5 days & have time to ship.
That lost me $35.

CR I will be back later to see how Zgoat is....gonna go attempt to clean poop boards that have not been tended to for 3 days !!!!!!!
Chickens are venturing out a bit this morning within bare spots but not far....
I still have to get the scissors & cut the nets that are still zip tied to the fencing but laying in the pens covered in snow & hope I can get them up.

Not looking forward to the next rain & wind !

News says Northern Idaho (where I used to live) has had over 22 " overnight.
Ha, this 18 we got here is nothing...but still, once you are stuck, you are stuck.
Sounds like Broody' had the most snow ?

Broody, that is great news!

Ok, checking in. All is well. Nine inches of snow with 1/4 inch of ice on top. Woke up this AM to discover the power went out sometime in the night and came back on all without me waking up. Thats a first. The power going out has always woke me up. I panicked thinking about 1 1/2 week old chicks in the brooder down in the tack room. Had no idea how long we went without power. I usually load them up in a plastic tub and put them by the wood stove. But all were alive and busy getting into trouble as usual.

Took DH to work and roads are clear. Just our dirt road is still full of snow but DH scraped some of it off with the tractor last night and getting out was easy. Horses had icicles hanging off their chins, manes and blankets yesterday. Can't understand why they don't go in their shelters. They have been standing out in the weather for the last 4 days. Seem dumber than chickens. At least they stay inside.

At least being stuck indoors has forced me to finish my seed orders. Need to go out and get the greenhouse ready to go in a few weeks. Whoo hoo, Spring is on it's way.

So, hope everyone else is coming out the other side of this in ok shape. It will all be going away soon. Back to rain.

they coyote AND bobcat both killed chickens last night.... and the bobcat jumps 5ft fences.
with the snow and lack of money i cannot build or turn my coops into prisons.....

i need 4 coyotes and a bobcat dead.... never thought i would say that.....

they killed the Boss rooster.... John's favorite rooster the naked neck.... and i don't know who else is missing......

should i call fish and game to double check about killing the critters or is it better to just deal with it?
