Don't know about you all but I work to hard to even begin to think I need PERMISSION, let alone a permit to protect my property.

The only reason they keep taking more control is because we continue to act like they have the right to take what this country was founded on.

Until one stands up for what is THEIRS, keeping the government out of our right to feed our family we will continue to be under dictatorship which will only get worse if we keep going in this direction.
I totally agree, 100%! We are so far away from what this country was founded on.

And, I would never have called anyone. SSS! The less they know the better.

Rustler or Chickie, since you both cook with cast iron I was wondering if there is a recommended brand to buy. I know you scrounge the dump for free ones but if you were to buy them is there a brand superior than another? DH keeps burning oil in my good stainless cookware and 'seasons' them and I have to use oven cleaner to get it off. If I bought cast iron it wouldn't matter since they get seasoned anyway. He can have his own set of pans. Besides, I wanted to try Chickies bread in the dutch oven she posted the pic of. Looked yummy.

I have several brands, with Lodge being my most un-favorite.
The Lodge pans seem to have really large particles of iron...very coarse & seem to be forever to get smooth.
The most favorite I have is "Wagner" of Sidney, Australia. These are very smooth, so much so that with barely a spray of OO, I can fry eggs in it & they will not stick.
I also have quite a few that have no markings on them at all, except size #, and they are all very smooth.
Sanding down the cook surface before you season a Lodge may help it be smoother.

LOL, Can you spell out BKF please? Just out of curiosity, who is MGSU? Mother Goose something or other? I'm really bad at this stuff.
I use cast iron too. The very best ones I have, MGSU got for me at an auction - 4 pans for $5! They are pretty old and nicely seasoned. The newer ones I got are Lodge, except for one Cabellas, which I really don't like. It isn't seasoned well and doesn't have the nice smooth surface which the old ones have. Maybe just need 20 years to wear in (I'll be dead by then)!

Dutch oven bread is the best. Oh, and if you get your stainless burnt, did you try BKF? It's what I use on mine and works a treat. But then, don't know how bad your DH burns yours! Sometimes, all it takes to get it off is to put water in it, and let it simmer for an hour.

Oh, BKF, Bar Keeper's Friend - pretty good stuff (cleans just about everything, use it on the stove top too).

Oh, re what CL said about the Lodge pans - yes the new ones are pretty rough surfaced. The ones I have are old and very smooth. NEVER have an egg stick in them. I have a refillable oil mister that I use, just a light spray and they are good to go.

Oh, and MGSU (Most Glorious Spousal Unit) - because he really is

Wow, looks like from Leavenworth to Colville is gonna get hit with another 7" now~~~~~~~

And Anna, your chick hatching story is fantastic !!!!!!!

You should maybe write it up (w/pics) and post it where all BYC peeps can read it, mayne under the hatching forum ?

You are inspiration !

I am lazing today, finally.
I let the Cuckoo Flock out, which is mostly cuckoo marans but also Ameraucanas & OE hens...and they all ran to see jack.
Jack is sooooooooooo happy to see his friends after 5 days locked up.
The chickens are Jack's friends, and his entertainment, his TV.
jack has been so bored with nothing but white to look at & nothing going on in the yard.

Illia !!!!!!!! It is awful about your beloved Shamos !!!!!!!!

I take DH's grinder to new or rusty CI.....it is air operated & we easily smooth the surface.
Then wash w hot soapy water to get the oily iron powder off...then load with Canola oil & fry chicken.
In the Ducth oven & glob alittle EVOO & toss a whole bodied chicken in it.and bake.
Seasons it very well !

You're lucky I know what EVOO is! I learned that from Racheal Ray!
