I'm originally from California - grew up in the Bay Area, college at UC Davis, worked as a wildland firefighter out of the Georgetown Ranger District east of Auburn right in your neck of the woods, then worked for the Fish and Wildlife Service Migratory Bird Research Center in Dixon, CA, then got a job in pharmaceutical research in Palo Alto. I couldn't afford to rent a shared room there, so I moved to Seattle in 93 and bought a house a year later!

My brother is a CHP officer and covers Auburn and Grass Valley. I go out your way at least once per year.

No, I just get outraged every so often when some of this political/government poop comes up that we have to ask permission to protect our family & property?
From a grizzly Bear?
Are they insane ?
What on earth was that man supposed to do?
Let the bear eat all his livestock and his family?
call the "authorites" and sit & waite?
He was way way way out in the wilderness...he had no time to waite & made his choice to protect what was his, and now he gets fined & 2 years in prison ?
THAT makes me VERY angry!!

When I was a college student, there was a mouse in my dorm room, so I notified the RA who told me to call school Health services to get some traps. I made the call, waited 2 days, went out and bought a trap, killed the mouse and dumped it down the garbage chute within an hour of setting the trap. 2 weeks later, campus health services, or whatever they were called, showed up at my door with a trap and some rubber gloves. I told them I had long ago killed the mouse. They asked me for the body. I told them I dumped it down the garbage chute. I got a written repremand because the mouse should have been brought to them to be tested for disease! Your tax dollars, and my tuition money at work!!!!

OK so does anybody want to know how to make your BYC page show up under yer avatar like before ??? Here ya go. Go to Profile then click edit. skroll down and under Recent activity make all grey but ARTICLES. Then when your OLD BYC page shows up. Right click copy short cut and paste to "MY COOP" Then save. bata boom bata bing such a simple thing.

So last night I plugged in my Brinsea to get it warmed up to use as a hatcher for the Serama's. It seemed fine last night. I just realized the fan seems to be busted!!! ACK!!!! It's warming up, but the fan isn't blowing......I will be calling them tomorrow for sure. Going to post over on the incubating/hatching thread and see if anybody has a quick fix. ...........sigh.

Did you get a fix?

Last year I bought an incubator from Blue Ducklings for about $150. I am afraid to use it because I don't want another hobby. You are welcome to borrow it or buy it. Blueduckilngs used it only once, I know it is a good brand, don't recall what brand. It is in my basement.

It's probably no good for chickens now cause I bet it has qwakers in it.

Wow! What a week! Glad to hear that everybody made it through the nasty weather for the most part!

Thank you CL & CR!!! It was nice to keep our BYC lifeline open!

My duck pen collapsed but DD & I got it reposted & rewired yesterday.
Kent schools were still closed today because 29 of our schools still had no power so I had another day at home to clean up the mess!

Amazingly my father was able to find me a generator and get it rented all the way from Mexico! When I tried to find 1 everyone told me that they were sold/rented out!

We only had 2 gas stations that were open in the entire Buckley/Bonney Lake/Sumner area. It was a pain!

In my other house( that SD currently lives in) we were completely prepared for anything. However, I was not allowed to take any camp stuff when I moved, and his doors were not open to me during the storm.

I am going to have to start all over from the bottom and try to slowly restock my emergency supplies.

We still have lots of ice & some snow under it still all over. We just do not seem to be melting!
