check to see if there is a credit union for your LOCATION ... not all of them are tied to a particular employer or to military ...
like around here, the Twin County credit union takes anyone who lives in the "twin counties" (Thurston and Lewis I think but could be Thurston and Kitsap)
you can also qualify sometimes if a relative does ... that's how I got into the FAA credit union, and to the Boeing Employees credit union
good luck

We are part of the Kitsap Credit Union, because we live in Kitsap County.

Snowing. I knew it would. I can smell it.

Yuk! Please keep it down there, over there, not here, thanks!
Although .. there are times when I would rather it snow, than this sideways rain we are getting today. Snow seems drier!

And this is EXACTLY why I will never be a B of A customer. They got such bad press recently when they announced fees for ATM use that they backed down - this must be their back-up plan to make money off of their customers. Those are huge fees!!!
B of A also made a deal with California's Employment Development Department to be the ATM card issuer for unemployment payments. No more paper checks - all funds are credited to the ATM cards and B of A is using this as an opportunity to try to get new accounts. I'm happy to be a Wells Fargo customer ... and wish I qualified for a credit union ...

Just about anyone can join any credit union, save Military ones.

BTW~~~~~~~
We are closing the Wells fargo Accounts next week (have to let auto deposit get done & then we re-rout that to the new account ) BECAUSE Good OL' Wells Fargo is feeing the heck out of eveyone now also.
Gotta pay attention to your checking statement here !
DH noticed it~~~~~
He called them right away !
It is now a $15 fee monthly IF you do not have a minimum of $7500. in your attached savings account OR have your checking attached to your home mortgage.
Wells Fargo mortgagers do not have this fee.
Those with a mere $7000 in savings get nailed !!!!!!!!
I was BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!!
We have been sincerely good Wells fargo people for decades (and opened the B of A accounts here in this town in 2010 as Wells fargo is in Chehalis.

THAT is far worse than B of A.

The day that BECU opened up to anyone (10+ years ago), I closed my BofA accts and opened accts at BECU. I have never been more satified with any business, bank or otherwise. I would highly recommend them. The customer service is excellent. Their only downside is lack of branches on every corner.

Imp

I think that is going to change and fast as so many giant banks has driven customers to BECU...we can only hope.
They might get a discount on all the empty B of A buildings that will soon be available for rent.
