That is soooo funny is so many ways!
My son is 20, autistic and dev.delayed, and just a handsome big dude. Especially when he was younger I would panic when people/family would say the most "awful" things, like, just at bedtime "Don't let the bedbugs/boogyman get you!" and that sort of teasing -- not. Try to get them to sleep with that in their busy little heads.
Recently, we were watching Am. Idol auditions and one of the young ladies was a special needs teaching assistant. She was talking about her job and how she really like working with her kids with Down's and autism, etc. Robert get's all excited later on as they were picking you would go thru and he ramarks that he really wanted to vote for her 'cause "I have a chance to have (date) her. She's beautiful AND she likes people with Autism!" I guess you kinda had to be there but the glee on his face was very special.

That is really sweet! Alex is 13 and I see he has a good head on him when it comes to girls. He doesn't check out how they look, he goes by how they treat him and how they treat others; although he has not really taken a lot of notice of them yet.

Well, my little girl called me this am and she had to have a tooth pulled!! Like a molar!!  Not wisdom teeth!!  I can't believe how bad her teeth are!!  Compared to the rest of the family, she has the worst, and personally and purely my opinion it was those stinkn flouride drops her doctor gave me!!  Justin didn't have them and his teeth are great!! Her teeth came in yellow and she has had quite a few problems!!!  Poor baby!!  I told her" you need a momma hug don't you"?? And she started crying!! and said yea but your 1000 miles away!!   :hit
Broke my heart!!!   We didn't have dental insurance when they were little and I feel so bad, cause now she has to go back and they pretty much have to put fillings in almost all of her teeth!!  :hit

my teeth have always been really really bad, I brush and floss and went to the dentist like your supposed to, always was blamed by the dentist for not taking care of them. everyone else in my family has good teeth, no problems. when I finally was dx'd with crohns disease (its autoimmune) and I researched and met lots of other crohnies, its a common thing. immune system can affect your teeth too. could be her own system messing with her teeth and not necessarily environment or medications. just food for thought.

I hear ya! Wishing these days I could start again but I guess at least being old its almost over. That wouldn't be so bad either. OH, just call me Eeyore.

Hello Eeyore!

nah, can't start over and we have what we have, and must deal with it, good or bad. It's like being in a play, but we don't know the lines or the outcomes.

Perhaps we are in act 3, the final act, but it's not the final curtain time yet!

Sad day today. Just got back from the vet with Abby. She woke up today with one of her front leg knees/elbows? really swollen and I forget what they called it, something with an H, fluid on the joint, can't drain it. Prednisone or Surgery were the only options and he advised neither at this time. While examining her, said he didn't like the sound of her breathing, he could tell she had limited lung capacity and suspected lung cancer. The x-rays confirmed. She came home with me because she still has a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye, but he said it would be soon. He guestimated a month if we are lucky, probably much less.

Poor sweet dog. She's well loved. It is so hard to see them suffer, and hard to lose them.

I have an old dog who gets hematomas on her head that we have surgically drained with a big shunt they leave in for a week. She had one when we found her and it comes back every 4 years or so. We have done x-rays and scans and can find no reason for them, just one day she will wake up with one side of her head so swollen that I can't find her eye. Last time she had it happen we were on the Oregon Coast. She ran on the beach all day the first day, and drank a bunch of ocean water. That evening she did not look well. The next day she was fine and back out on the beach runing and playing. The very next morning one side of her hear was all puffed up again with no sign of a cut, bruise or trauma. 2 years ago she started getting other tumors on her body. These new ones are not hematomas and can't be operated on. She's a sweet gal and it breaks my heart that there is not much we can do for her. I don't know how old she is other than she's at least 10.

Im very sorry for what you are going through. But I understand the heartache. I too have an older dog who is on her last leg. The vet has told me to prepare to let her go, as the medications that used to keep her comfortable no onger do the job. Poor Dusty can barely make it up and down our 3 steps, and even has problems with the ramp we put in for her. For Dusty it is just old age catching up to her. So I do what I can to hep her be comfortable. But I also know that I need to not think about myself and do what is right for her. I cant keep lifting this 100 pound furball up and down the stairs.

Again Im so sorry.

I remember when my son was an infant they said tetracyline (terramycin) could cause discoloration of the teeth. So not treat with it until permanent teeth were in. Also I think if the mom is treated with it (for any reason) during pregnancy it can affect the baby's eentual teeth. Too much fluoride I believe caused brownish teeth not yellow. But I'm an old fart, my memories aren't always spot on.

Tetracycline given to an infant will greatly discolor their adult dentition, which at that time are just 'buds' and not totally formed.
DH has just such teeth, very yellow but otherwise healthy.

My teeth are not so much soft, but thin enameled from Celiac Disease (poor absorption)
Nowdays, the best thing going is AS SOON AS the child's adult dentition come in,( no more baby teeth) then take your child to get "Sealents" applied.
There is a seam in the enamel on bicuspids & molars which runs right down the middle of the occlusal area (where the teeth bite together) and sealants are awesome !
I did my daughter's myself.
It is simple, an etching compound is painted on, making the area pourous and then cleaned, then sealant is applied (like painting nail polish but not the same stuff) and then the teeth are zapped with a UV gun...in seconds the tooth is sealed and it is invisable and lasts a long long time.
Still today, my daughter has no cavities.
DH's daughter just had a Granddaughter's teeth sealed.
It is fast, no shots, & non traumatic !
Talk to your Dental Office about Sealants.

Awwwwwwwwww so sorry Tam !!!!!!!

Some people just have teeth prone to cavities. If I remember correctly, It has to do with it has to do with the bacteria in their saliva.

In Dental School, we were taught that there is 2 types of people concerning dentition,
One has a very acidic body & usually ends up with cavities early on & by adulthood they have lots of fillings & crowns, but after adulthood they have very few.
The other type have alkaline systems, and these kids have very few cavities in childhood, but come adulthood they have alot.
Sealants really do work !
