Moved most of my babies from the back room to the coop today. They are about 6 weeks old and bursting out of the brooder. I set up an X pen for them with 2 heat lamps. I have done this every year for 8 years and still think they will be too cold. I even brought the 2 smallest back into the house for the night. Maybe I will move them out again tomorrow.

I put my 8 little ones out in the garage-coop a few days ago. They were just getting too big to be in the brooder that I had in the living room. I'm sure that 7 are pullets and 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte I'm 99% sure is a roo. Now that they are all out with the mature hens and the 3 mallards, the roo is starting to learn some manners.

I know that I have violated the normal protocols of introducing new chicks to an established flock. On the other hand, I've been checking on them closely and I've found no sign of stress or chill.

Today, 5 of the 8 chicks came out in the run to join the big girls. Even the mallard ducklings were out to enjoy the evening sun. Ducklings and chicks are from a Feb. 27th hatch. So about 5 weeks old now and doing well on their own. I do still have a red heat lamp and a white 75w bulb in the coop in case they want to get warm.

You know roughly...but I am so at in the sticks you could never find me. But it would be fun. I have a nice big yard, BBQ, couple tables....fun fun fun.

Its out. I went to check after a quick dinner and right before I had to leave for choir practice and noticed that it had zipped all the way. So I picked up my daughter and just as we looked into the bator, pop, out comes the chick. She was so excited. Of course I was too.



How long can I leave it in the bator. the other egg is starting to rock. The chick is almost dry. And was born at 6 last night. Since there is only the chick and the one egg there is plenty of room. And I know for the first 48 hours they don't need to eat or drink.

From what I have heard. They are supposed to be ok for 3 days. At this point STAY OUT ! ! !
