I have my Lyda in a large pot, in full sun.
I pruned her way back last fall as SF recommended, and as far as the fragrance, it is out of this world !!!!!!!
This beauty has blooms that look alot like a dogwood, as far as the rest (shade, etc) I will let the expert (SF) tell you all that, as I have had my Lyda just 1 year now.

shes pretty were can I find one?

Hay CL they havent hatched yet so I will let everyone know what happens. I did have a great Orp hatch only have 2 eggs left to go.
Next week is my Legbar sure how I get a pair..
Have a great weekend if I dont get back on will be building and cleaning and yes visiting my son in Lacey everyday again..

KM Im sorry for your loss..

Argh! I just wasted a week with someone who answered my CL ad for some of our project birds. At first it sounded really exciting, she was putting together her breeding flocks and that's always a lot of fun to help someone with, but then it started taking 2 days to get any response and when it came, it didn't answer any question I put to her, had no information as to her setup, and she wouldn't commit to a farm visit. After a week of these delays, I finally sent her an email explaining that this wasn't how I do business and I find these repeated delays very disrespectful to my time an energies. End of communication and Flake Filed her, so if she emails again (and they nearly always do), I can minimize any contact or time put in.

I sometimes wish we had a database of these idiots so we'd all be forewarned - so and so arrives hours late, sucks up hours of your time but won't commit to buying birds, brings kids who chases your birds and upsets your rooster, wears street shoes to your farm despite being told to wear appropriate shoes, waffles when its time to pay for their birds, tries to make deals that are outrageous, skips out (I had one do this Sunday) without paying, ignores proper care of the chicks then wants you to replace them for free, etc.

We all do this somewhat informally, of course, and I will warn some local folks about the above gal to give them fair warning. Most of them are less patient than I am, so I doubt they'll put up with that for long.

How do you all deal with these time sink flakes?

Anyone have Iowa Blues or had?.... I've been trying to find info on them, which of course isn't much... tried contacting someone here to see if they can answer my question... but no response....my question is...

How big do Iowa's get?.. So far ours is seriously Godzilla compared to all the other birds... we got them all the same day - which was the day that they arrived at the feed store... So there's no age difference, just "Size".... and is it normal....?
LMB -- we just got 3 pullets ourselves and like you, I've been reading everything I can get my hands on. We got them when they were a week+ and in the bin there were ALL sizes. Being the sap I am, I picked the 3 smallest (one with pasty butt) but for sure, there were chicks in there that appeared to be a week older than the rest. I guess some lines grow out faster? I understand that the older generation of IB's were larger (Roos - 6-7 lbs, Hens 5-6 lbs) and today people are finding their full grown birds are on average 1-2 lbs lighter -- I keep hearing "leghorn" in the description of their size. Maybe there is old blood showing up here and there in the larger chicks? Also there two color variations in the chicks: Mostly black and chipmunk. There almost seems to be a sex-linked thing going on in people are getting higher rates of roos with the chipmunk chicks, and more hens with the black ones. Some have IB's posted as very heavily penciled birds and others have the hens in particular, looking black bodied with birchen neck. A new club is trying to establish the breed with two or three "accepted" color variations. It's kind of exciting because we're on the eve of a group of people wanting to re-establish the breed. Right now 3 main hatcheries carry IB's but all their lines come from one originating source since their numbers were so small.

So I just got back from putting my favorite hen down. My Golden Sexlink "Lucy" was always my little buddy. She had massive tumors in her abdomen and there was nothing we could do for her. She was suffering so I took her to Dr. Bruce and had them put her to sleep. I just couldn't do it myself. So that's the last of my original three. I am going to bury her next to my BR, her "sister".

Congrsts on the hatch Z! Sound like you will be over run!

How many Sizzles do you thing you will have? :)

Gosh darn it. So sorry KM -

If those ladies didn't find such a sweet place in your heart it wouldn't be quite as tough, but I guess that's why we keep them isn't it? She had a good life with you. It was good you knew when it was time...
Sorry.
