I breed Frizzle and am breeding for Sizzle, so this is from my experience with Frizzle Cochins & Silkies breeding.
When you breed a Frizzle to a Smooth-feathered bird, the smooth-feathered offspring are not then considered Frizzled. They are smooth-feathered birds that MAY carry the Frizzle gene. If you breed that smooth to another Frizzle, their offspring will likely have a greater number of Frizzles than a regular Smooth to Frizzle breeding program. Which is why I like to use Smooth-with-Frizzle genes in my program matched to Frizzle, last hatch 4 out of 6 were Frizzle, one smooth and one had Silkied feathers. I haven't bred the Smooth-with-Frizzle gene to Smooth, however. Nor have I bred Smooth-with-Frizzle to a regular Silkie.
Ok, thank you very much for responding =) That Frizzle Gene is rather interesting to me & curiousity got the best of me on how it affects the birds. I'm not sure what our lil ones were bred with.. I'm guessing cochin, since they have the poofy butts & feathery feet. Ours are the Bantam version.. & I cant wait til they are older. They will be sooo cute.. We were planing on "future" breeding couple yrs down the road... Since we have the Black,White,Buff & Blue or Splash what ever case that one is... I think they would produce some really great babies with maybe one of our other Bantams or Roo Frizzle with one of our standard hens..... =) now that I know how it works will determine what we do later =)
