I breed Frizzle and am breeding for Sizzle, so this is from my experience with Frizzle Cochins & Silkies breeding.

When you breed a Frizzle to a Smooth-feathered bird, the smooth-feathered offspring are not then considered Frizzled. They are smooth-feathered birds that MAY carry the Frizzle gene. If you breed that smooth to another Frizzle, their offspring will likely have a greater number of Frizzles than a regular Smooth to Frizzle breeding program. Which is why I like to use Smooth-with-Frizzle genes in my program matched to Frizzle, last hatch 4 out of 6 were Frizzle, one smooth and one had Silkied feathers. I haven't bred the Smooth-with-Frizzle gene to Smooth, however. Nor have I bred Smooth-with-Frizzle to a regular Silkie.

Ok, thank you very much for responding =) That Frizzle Gene is rather interesting to me & curiousity got the best of me on how it affects the birds. I'm not sure what our lil ones were bred with.. I'm guessing cochin, since they have the poofy butts & feathery feet. Ours are the Bantam version.. & I cant wait til they are older. They will be sooo cute.. We were planing on "future" breeding couple yrs down the road... Since we have the Black,White,Buff & Blue or Splash what ever case that one is... I think they would produce some really great babies with maybe one of our other Bantams or Roo Frizzle with one of our standard hens..... =) now that I know how it works will determine what we do later =)

For being a tiny thing that is...................

3 1/2 days old !
Cheryl says Emily Marie has slept through the night all but the first night.wow !!!!!!!!!!!
She follows faces & is doing great !!
Cheryl is tired, & her back is out due to epidural, with assorted brusing & stiffness.
She is busy too & asked me to share these with the BYCers !

** Note Cheryl's date/time is OFF !!!**

Beautiful baby! I hope Cheryl feels back to normal real soon. How is Chloe doing with a new little sister? I don't think baby feet size is related to adult foot size. Olivia had itty bitty feet, and she now wears a size 10!

Thanks! Summer we open one end and winter we close it. We have an incubator room, brooder room and a room with sink and table for what ever and then pens inside to go to the outside runs. Then the out side runs on the east side open into the fenced pasture for letting them in long grass.

What an awsome set up!

Do males exhibit their behavior fairly early? such as say fighting with other birds.. I know we have (2) for sure, but a couple others have been fighting with other birds too. The (2) for sure known ones are separated but in each bunch there is still always (1) other bird that fights with them... or those other birds fight with other ones. So far the ones that we are pretty sure are pullets don't have the Roo Behavior. -- most were supposed to be "guaranteed" pullets... but lately, I'm not thinking that so much. They are about 1 week 5 days old..so almost 2 weeks old. We're really wondering exactly how many Roo's we wound up with. -- They have loads of space to stretch, run, exercise so it's not a..being crowded issue...

Thanks bunches

I'm a little worried about this, too. We bought 3 pullets (can't have Roos in the city). Two of them (Americauna and Light Brahma) are getting very big quickly. The Rhode Island Red isn't growing as fast. The Americauna and Light Brahma are chest bumping, too. Ours are 2 weeks old. The bumping shouldn't be a crowded issue, in our brooder, either. They are in a 2.5' x 4' kennel. The Americauna is roosting on things, too. Her latest is sitting on top of the feeder. I'm really worried I'm going to end up with one lonely hen out of this. I'm hoping the Rhode Island Red is a runt (can chickens have runts?) - or that the other two might actually be a little older than what we were told.

Hi everyone, just wanted to pop in and say hello! I'm a fellow Washingtonian living in Covington. I have 11 girls (thought a few might be roo's, bummer) and they're about 4 weeks old. Can't wait to join in some chatter here :)
