That is just wonderful! It must be so moving to see your son make a connection with the chicks.

It deffinatly is.. He is often so rough and violent. It is wonderful to see the peaceful side of him.

Oh my gosh so just got back in from feeding and ck on everyone. My Buff Orp thought it would be go to hide eggs from me and have some chicks. She is so cute just love her. So will have to take pictures later and let everyone see her. Im going to put some chicks that hatched last weekend under her tonight so she can raise them and I dont have too. Its should be easy to do she's a good mommy.

I am in Omak. I am still new myself but this is a nice group of people for sure! I am also new to raising chickens. We had 4 but I had to get rid of two. My Louise ended up being a Louis. Ha Ha! So gave away two, we still have to Easter Eggers..

Sigh, I am having a hard time finding chicks here.. Since we had to get rid of my RIR chicks I was hoping to get two new egg layers that would get along with my EE's. But everyone is out of chicks. I cant order online as I can only have 4 chickens here where I live, and the least amount I have found that I can order is 5. That would put me at 7 chicks. I am bummed. My daughter is really upset. I told her we would get new babies to replace the two we had to rehome. Darn Louise, why did you have to be a Louis??

I'll admit I'm always touched when I see how gentle animals (even ones that normally aren't) are with "special" humans. They just seem to know. Attitudes change on both sides. I've thought of doing therapy work with my critters for this very reason.

It is truly amazing indeed! These chicks had been rather skittish so I sat in the cage with them for a bit and within 15 minutes they were all over me pushing eachother away for my attention, then I had the kids take turns and they were just curled on my son's lap while he sang. Animals are truly a special gift!!!

Everyone here knows about chicken math

. Let me explain chicken math to you.
Rule # 1 Never Ever get just ONE chicken

they are social little animals and need a friend to keep them company

. and if you ever introduce new chickens to an existing flock you need to introduce at least two together so they have a companion. I usually introduce 4 -8 new girls to my existing flock

Rule #2 ALWAYS build your coop and run TWICE the size you think you need Because in a short time you will need the extra space. Chickens will start following you home from the store

That's how chicken math works! Just ask anybody on this page ! This old man knows what he's talking about

I started out with four and in less then three years I got up to 33
