Is anyone interested in breeding this beautiful EE Cockeral, 3 months old (free!)? I have too many roo's. He's the white one with the red shoulders. I still have that LH cockeral too (behind EE) if anybody's interested in him as well. :)

Where be everyone ?

IS THIS A PULLET?? I am was told is was, but "she" is the only one whos comb is red, they are about 8 weeks old, she is a welsummer

I don't know.

I also would like to know... do the combs on RIR and Light Brahma pullets turn red? Both of my 8-week-old chicks combs are showing signs that they are turning. The combs are not large. Just getting red. The hackle feathers seem to be rounded (if I understand correctly what hackle feathers are). They have a stance like I'd expect from a hen...

Here's my RIR pullet at 10 weeks:

When I get to the point where my laying flock is past it's prime, I look for people interested in chickens as pets or who are less concerned with the number of eggs laid per week. If I can get 10 or 15 bucks for a hen that has done her job for me, I think that's better for the bird than sending her to the freezer.

That makes sense, esp. if the meat on a 2-3 year old hen wouldn't be very good. That would probably make my kids happier, too! Although, it is kind of funny to have them question where the chicken came from every time we serve them chicken. They'll look outside to make sure the chickens are still there.
