DH's Mom got a Spider Monkey when we were kids.
Some guy came in the bar with it (His Dad owned the bar) and he won the Monkey in a crap game or some weird story.
Anyways my Mom thought the monkey was so cute, so his Mom gave it to my Mom & it went all downhill from there.
The Monkey stinks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Mom had to fill the kitchen sink to let the Monkey bathe daily & one day it flipped out & went screaming and jumping from curtain rod to refrigertaoe & pooped all over & kept screaming.
I am now traumatized by Monkeys.....but not black shiney birds.

My parents got my older sister a Monkey for graduation. we all loved her. Her name was Love , my parent s build a huge cage for her and she was in the family room. The cage was big enought for a man to walk around in. We would let Love out with diapers on she was so much fun, I dont remember a bad smell just the fruit smell becasue she always had fruit. When my sister moved out and got married she took her with her. I dont know what happend to her just know my Mom was so mad at her for what she did with Love. She wasnt a spider monkey she was a Kaupchin and so so sweet. My parents had a friend who was bald and Love use to run to him and smack him on the head and scream it was so funny thats the only person she'd do that too.

Okay - Here are many views of my new VF coop. I hope today's build up north is going as well as ours did. I am eternally grateful to Dave and Debbie for giving up days of their time and all of the hard work that has gone into the building of our coops and runs.

Coop facing North - also featuring "Toscano" my little Olive Egger from CL checking things out.

Thanks Ron for coming out to DS's Lacrosse tournament Friday and this morning.

They lost in the semi finals this morning 6-4, but they did really well! Played Bellevue. They have a very well established program and Woodinville is only 3-4 years old.
They played so hard! My DS scored the first goal of the game! He was so excited!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!

Hey,
I'm also in Vancouver! Orchards area! Where are you?
I'm in Orchards as well. Nice to see a fellow Vancouverite here. ;)

We started our adventure in chicken farming in March. I'm messing around with feed options. Right now I'm fermenting organic chick starter from Orchards Feed for my 6-10 week olds. Pricey though at 20+ for a 50# bag. Looking to add in some whole grains when they are start laying to cheapen the cost. I don't really need organic, but would like something local and fresh.

Peeps in SW Wa or Portland, what do you feed your chickens and where do you get it?

Wow Dave and his DW are doing amazing jobs on everyones coops and runs! That is great.

Happy Fathers Day to all the great Daddy's here!

I don't think that Fathers day is as hyped up as it should be like Mothers day. It is a very big deal to me and I hope to pass that onto our kids. Just found out that most of our kids classes did not have the kids make Fathers day gifts, because not everyone has a Dad..... But they all got to make Mothers day gifts! I think that is Bull C***, I understand that not everyone has a Dad or a Mom, but when I was a kid our teachers had us make a gift for the ones that took care us. So because of that my DH did not get anything from the kids (untill I had them make somthing for him) All the things that the schools are doing really piss me off.
Sorry for my little rant.

Look at what showed up with Mama Kate this morning!!

From my research I was pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to sex them for about 3 or four weeks......but it is pretty obvious that the barred wings are boys! Three boys and one girl, looks like!

So I am pretty proud of myself, I have never had any baby chicks of ANYTHING hatch before! So neat!!

Oh good I am so glad that you got them. I wanted them so bad but could not go all the way up there to get them! Post pics when you get them!!!!
Oh boy, what a day!! I was cleaning out my little 4x4 coop for quarentining the new Ameracauna's, (sp?), and then Mama Kate showed up with her baby brood of four peachicks!

So I scooped them up from her and threw them in the 4x4.......I don't want them free ranging - too many crows and hawks around lately! Mama Kate is so NOT HAPPY that I took them from her!

So after that I went out and picked up the Ameracauna's......and I lost two of the five as I was trying to put them in the 4x4 .....they flew OUT (as in OVER and ABOVE) of my pen and into the woods! WOW I had no idea they would be able to fly like that!

HMPH. They were two of the three grey (lavendar? blue?) ones. I'm so mad! the underbrush is way too thick for me to go in after them, all they will do is go deeper into the forest.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY IDEAS????

No apology is needed. The idiots are running the asylums today.

So here's the new run and coop. It's not painted, but it's completely finished. Just need to add sand to the run!
Two parallel roost bars on top of the poop tray

Under that is the nesting boxes Dave built way in the back, they'll love the darkness back there!

Run, with a roost along the right side, hanging feeder and waterer on the back left:
