CR - I don't know how you handle bees like that. That would scare me to death!
Just like eating lettuce! Ain't nothing to it. They are such fun, fascinating little creatures. Also for those who don't know. Two years of no pollination and mankind is done yup DEAD. The major pollinators are honey bees, Mason bees and bumble bees. PLEASE help these little creatures. All 3 are non aggressive and only sting as last resort for defense.

I have one new baby Silkie out!!!

Hoping that the 3 Bantam Fav eggs for Tamamra pip today too!

Out of 7 that is all that made it to lockdown.
I at least go to see the first one hatch before I now have to go off to work.
My DS is now in charge of texting me during the day to let me know if anything else happens.
I really don't have time to go to work....I have more important things to do.....like watch babies hatch!

Since I have been talking bees and it is that time of year. So IF you get stung here are some things that have been said to help.
Put a penny on the sting site for 15 minutes.
Apply some Prep H type ointment.
Take leaves from the weed plantain crush them to make juice and rub on the sting.
And the newest one for me is the "StingEze" MAX 2 pen that I bought at walmart. My arm was looking a little ugly after the 14 stings. within an hour or so of putting the pen on the arm looked much better and this AM is near normal.

Dave (Velvettfog) arrived last night with his huge trailer! Working all day with various helpers on 2 new runs for my chickens. I can't wait to let my legbars move into their new digs. should finish the roofing and wire tomorrow and hopefully work on Robins chicken coop tomorrow.

Wow - beautiful!

Good morning everyone!!!!!

Oh I am so excited

I will be picking up my eggs from WA4-Hpoultrymom at noon today! My broody Silver Laced Wyandotte Fancy ahs been waiting so patiently. I will let her sit on the eggs in her chosen nest for a few days and then move her to the broody area to sit for the rest of the time.
Also I get to pick up my free turkeys today also. Not sure if there will be two or three just yet, the guy said that the third one is out sitting on eggs in his woods and I can have her as soon as she is done!

Enjoy your day today, I'll pop back on a bit later.

DAWN - Ricky is the absolute sweetest little boy! He lets me hold him, comes when called (I have never heard of a chicken learning his name in under a week and coming when I use it!), and cheeps like crazy all day long, He was really lonely and missed you yesterday so I spent a lot of time holding him on the ground in the run. He is going to make one great boy for our girls! They are not nice to him yet but I know they'll come around. Hopefully he will catch up in size too, right now they've got about 1/3 body size on him! I still love his hairdo, never get tired of seeing it. He's also happily roosting with them at night, even though they chase him during the day. I gave him a little hideout to get away from them, and extra food/water in the coop in case they don't let him get to the main food/water in the run.

He is a sweetheart...it's so cute because just before you pick him up he knows you are going to and he makes these cute little noises like "oh she's going to pick me up!" but doesn't move away at all

I do this weird thing with my chickens - when I hand feed them I say their name. I know...silly...but they do seem to wait their turn most of the time!

The other name I called all the chicks until they grew up is "peepers" - so they will respond to that too.

Thank you for giving him such a good home!

The very morning after Ricky left, the little Spitz/Brabanters mix (I call him Sid because of his punk rock hairdo) you could tell he is the new head of household. The posture change is so interesting to see! And he tried to crow too - so cute...sort of LOL Except that means his time at my house is very limited.

(On that note - I have two more of these adorable cockerels left - see the chicks over 8 weeks section or PM me if anyone wants one!)
