North Vancouver huh? I always thought I was in East vancouver....but then again I seldom leave the house, so I really dont know where I am in location to ANYTHING, LOL
All I know is we are out by Hockinson!!!

Love seeing all the vancouver people on BYC!!!

oh shoot. Well, I think I fixed the link now. Please try it again!

As for our location... we are a bit farther north than you are, and slightly to the west too, but I guess we are in east Vancouver. I don't know my local lingo too well yet. I just know that we are at the northern limit of Vancouver. one street north of us is Brush Prairie, so you can't get any further north than us and still be in Vancouver

You know in the Peanuts movies whenever Snoopy says the equivalent of "GAH!"? I keep hearing that in my head. When the birds dusted in their nest box... again when they flipped the box over... when the nest box shelf didn't fit right (forgot about a 2x4 that I needed to make allowances for)... and then this morning was a big "GAH!"- moment

Jr: "Hey. Guess what?"
Me: *groggily* "Hmmpth?"
Jr: "It snowed."
Me: "GAH! NOOOO!"

(BTW, I miss the storm cloud smiley. That fit better.)

Oh, and no, it's not J. R. It's Jr, as in "Junior". Yes, I call my husband Junior. We all do. Gotta keep him in his place!

I don't dislike snow, but not only do we need rain (our average is 7 in, but this month we've only gotten 1.2 inches this month!) , I'm supposed to be tilling the garden/poultry pen this Saturday.
*checks Weather Channel*
GAH! Blasted rain! This weekend was supposed to be sunny! I DON'T CARE! I'm tilling! I need to terrace it and make some sawdust walkways so I don't slip anymore!

We just got a dusting here, so, I will classify it as "not really snow".

I am pretty sure that by the time I get to work I will have been reminded how well we Pacific Northwesterns do when driving in winter conditions.

Come on spring!!

Hi Spookychick! Good to know there are some people on here so close to me! We moved here last summer from Northern California. I am just starting out with chickens - 15 chicks - 6 Cuckoo Marans, 5 Ameraucanas, 3 Buff Orpingtons, and one Mystery Chick. They are almost three weeks old.

What's your chicken story?

Hey Spookychick and Goperhboyfarms & anyone else in the Vancouver, WA area -

Do you know of a good local source for organic chicken feed? I have been ordering mine to be shipped in, but I'd rather buy local if there's a good option.

N. Cali as in Redding? Or N. Cali as in Anyplace-North-Of-San Fran? If so, where? I have a lot of family in the Solano and Napa counties and used to live down there.

Welcome to Washington & BYC!

NorCal as in Bay Area - born and raised in Oakland, most recently lived on my family's ranch in Pleasanton/Danville. I am getting married in Napa this October

I also spent a lot of time with friends in the Redding area while growing up

How did you end up in Port Orchard? We looked at some houses there when we were planning to move up here, but Vancouver turned out to be the best deal for us. I love it up your way, though.

My dad worked at Mare Island in Vallejo and got transfered. Then in high school I met a local boy and got married. It is pretty up here! I can still remember what I thought when I first saw Port Orchard: "OMG, it's so GREEN! I'm going to live HERE?!?!". I never knew a place could be so green and pretty and yet so close to... well, civilization. I'm so glad we moved here. I'm kinda fond of that local boy. LOL.

What led you to move up here?

BTW: CONGRATS!

Ah, well, we were looking to buy our first house and wanted some space for our dogs to run and for projects like gardens, fruit trees, chickens, etc. You can get all that in the Bay Area for the low, low price of $2 million. Up here was next best thing and much more affordable.

I have been starting seeds in flats over the past couple of weekends and we are just finishing up building our raised beds and we planted 15 fruit trees last month! You should definitely go rent a tiller!
