Prayers for her. My cousin has that. It's a very rough disease. So sorry to hear she's in the hospital.

One should also never sit outside with their dinner while the chickens are out and about. They will find you and do their very best to forcibly take your food away. If you're bored and need entertainment, you can always chase a family member out of the house while they're eating and release the chickens. I highly recommend it.
Good idea!

Everything in my greenhouse grew like mad, but in the garden, the weeds grew much faster than the vegetables. I am having trouble finding them amongst the weeds. Each bed sprouted a different type of weed.

This past weekend I ripped out a couple of beds. I have to rip out a 3rd, too. A lot of my plants bolted while we were at Lake Chelan. Went out today... my purple potato plants look like they're dying. They haven't even flowered. Not exactly sure what happened. I tried something new this year with the potatoes... instead of covering them with soil, I covered them with straw. They must not like that. It's sad to have bare earth this far in the season.

SweetSilver, your nest boxes looks nice. Your coop has a timeless and classic look to it. It looks like what I imagine a perfect farm to look like.

I'm fighting my city about my birds and the prosecutor has said that there is no such thing as a pet chicken. Can I refer to you someone who DOES have a chicken as a pet?. I have a couple of Michigan people who have made statements on my behalf for having poultry as pets.

I'm fighting to save my hens, the more support I can get will help.
If you are willing to help, I would certainly appreciate it. Please PM me if you can help.

Randy Z.

Our city (Auburn, WA) legalized chickens for small back yards in Nov. 2011. In the city code, they used to be referred to as farm animals - and farm animals were not allowed on land smaller than 1 acre. Now, the city code refers to them as "domestic fowl" and they can live on lots as small as 6,000 sq. feet. The new "domestic fowl" label includes chickens, turkeys and ducks. Domestic fowl are now protected the same way anyone's dog or cat would be. The term "domestic fowl" sounds a bit like "pet" to me - considering domestic animals usually are pets.

Hey Renee are we still coming over this week? Will Thursday work? I'm busy every other day! Ugh.

Yes, planning on Thursday. If you are feeling too busy, just let me know - we can change to next week. Two of my kids are extremely disappointed that they won't be here when your kids are (oldest at overnight camp, daughter at Girl Scout Day Camp).
