There are quite a few in Vegas :)

I think if we were closer to town, I could charge more, so many people out here seem to have small flocks. I've seen a few signs selling eggs for $2.00. I saw the cost on the free range organic brown eggs at Trader Joes last time we were up there. I think it was $6.75 a dozen. Makes me kind of jealous.

So this last week I quit using feeders and started using bowls for the feed and picking it up at night and putting it out in the morning in the open space. There has been rodent poop on the metal can lids but the can't get in. I'm not going through as much feed now either. This has forced the stupid voles to come out in the open during the day more. The hens have killed and eaten a lot of them this week as has my GSD. So hopefully this will take care of the freeloaders, but we are going to try the snap traps again with the peanut butter under the trigger as was suggested.

I couldn't sleep the other night and started thinking. I was thinking about entering a Spitzhauben or two into some of the local shows , like Monroe, next year to create interest in the breed and specifically my birds and eggs. Do you think that would work? How would I let people know where they can buy eggs. The cages don't have names on them as far as I can tell.

I think that is a great idea; your birds are so pretty and nice!!!

I think the best way is to leave a stack of cards next to the cage (if allowed) and stand there and talk to people as they look at them.

I can help by sending good photos of chicks that came from you.

They really are adorable!

Well, I guess the rooster is ruling the roost. If I had my druthers, I'd be making a cup of tea and sitting outside watching chickens. Instead, I get to pack my family for a late-start to an overnight Cub Scout camp out.

BTW FirewifeJess... the Yukon is fine. I ran out of gas. Ooops! Thanks for offering to help! I got a nice little reminder from DH that we don't wait for dummy lights to turn on before we fill the tank with gas. LOL! Personally, I think he should get the Yukon's dummy light fixed so we don't have this problem in the future because some of us rely heavily on those things!

Well, gotta go... the rooster is giving me stink eye. Must get packing. Have a good evening everyone.

Someone should have showgirls around here.

Now I'M not allowed to have them. DH thinks anything with a naked neck is ugly as sin and if it's bantam he has no use for it. He barely tollerates the regular silkies because they are small and lay small eggs, but they do brood well so they get to stay. The EE hen that raised the brahma chicks almost ruined that, luckily I got more silkies before she went broody. He likes the brahmas because they are such good foragers, and as far as looks go, he fell in love with the wheaten ameraucana roosters. He keeps threatening my EExsilkie rooster with the soup pot as soon as the little ameraucana cockerel is old enough.

I just walked next door and talked to the neighbor when he got home from work. He had made passive comments about the rooster crowing yesterday, but I guess I took it the wrong way. I think he was more just interested in WHY I got a rooster to begin with? I flat out said "Is my rooster's crowing bothering you in the mornings because if so I will get rid of him" and he said No, his bedroom is on the opposite side of the house and he only hears Ricky crowing once he's already awake!

I think that means we get to keep him!!!!!!! I told him if he's ever bothered by the chickens to please come straight to us though and we will sort it out promptly; that way we can avoid some sticky situations in the future.

Yay! I am so glad you can keep Ricky. He is such a handsome guy! And it's good that you were able to clear the air with the neighbor.
