Thank you so very much! I have fallen so hard for chickens, it's wonderful! This will be my 4th year with them, couldn't be any happier!!!

Yes! I just have to get him some hens this year. Hopefully I can get some mature ones, but we will see. If we do, I will let you know. You would LOVE being around him. Such a kind and fun rooster. He is very talkative and loves his big girls I let him run with!

Thank you for the welcome!!

Oh I'm so upset! I had been hatching some BCs and on Tues morning I woke up and the temp was suddenly 107! I adjusted it and have been freaking out. Well, Thursday was "hatch day" and I punched a hole in the tops of each one... I get to # 5 and PEEP PEEP PEEP! I'm so excited! I'd had 2 duds and 2 deaths, and so YAY! There's life! The rest were duds or deaths. One single chick. I put her back in the bator and decided I was not going to mess with it AT ALL.

She died Yesterday while I was at my first day of work. I opened it up, and she was perfect. There was no reason to die!

And it's one thing to lose, say, a mixed breed batch, but to lose BC Marans?!?!

ETA: That's it, I officially give up trying to hatch my own.

Thanks Carl and Beektoria. I'm pretty bummed. I really wanted those BCs. I just need to find BC chicks I think, and just throw in the hatching towel. We'll see.

On a different note: Is anyone going to be working at the new hospital in Gig Harbor? I am! (boy am I happy to be working!) It's really nice, though it IS smaller than the other hospitals around here. Anywho, just wondered if any other Chicken Addicts work there now.

Very funny, but where did you hit hot? I spent the day with the heat up to 74 in the house.

Oh, That's right male menopuse is different. I need a hot car!!! (visualize Red Corvette)

You can do that?!?!

<-- still doesn't have central heat and is sitting in a house that's 62... and feels warm.

Read about you heat troubles.

I have to admit I was in shorts and a tank top. But yes the older i get the less tolerant to cold I am. (at least while I'm in the house) 2 weeks ago I was outside trimming the apple trees in a tank top and jeans (around 40), all day- no problem. I paid my PSE bill today $200. Ugh! You win!

Ugh, my gas bill is cheap but the electric..

DBF got the boiler system all back together last night and the

pilot light won't ignite. No idea why.

Twenty very degrees and the

pilot light is ALL that's preventing us from having a house that's warm.

My nose is cold to the touch! I'm sitting here with a blanket, cat, robe, and scarf.

We have oil and my house all of a sudden hit 59 after I spent the am in Seattle at Pike Street Market...I was like OMIGOSH it's freezing in here....talked to hubby and he goes "oh...I wonder if it's cuz the power went out earlier" Hit the reset button and it did come back on but if he hadn't said that, I wouldn't have known the power even went out cuz I wasn't home....It took a while for it to warm back up. We had just had our pilot cleaned last month and he said it was going bad so be ready...I was like "NOT NOWWWW!!" Whew! I have every sympathy in the world for cold house!

Anyone gotten chicks from Monroe feed store? I'd like to give them a try since it seems more logical to drive an hour each way to get chicks at a reasonable price than to order online and have to get the minimum OR go through My Pet Chicken and have to pay $6o for three chicks!! Sheesh!

If folks have had good luck with Monroe, I'll check them out this weekend.
