Just Bugged, I get such a kick everytime you mention the "nasty puppies," I know what you mean. Yorkies(and other toy breeds) tend to be long lived and remain puppies till the end, and don't care for housetraining. . What fun for you and, for us, hearing about their antics.Tell us more...

I'm supposed to be packing. But I can't stop crying. A little boy in my Webelos Den got hit by a car. So, I'm here trying to think happy chicken thoughts. Suddenly chickens don't matter, either. I'm just sick. I'm hoping we'll hear good news before we leave for vacation.

So.... who has cute baby chick pictures to show???? I need happy pics to make me smile.

I think I'll go snuggle my Drama.
Oh no Im so sorry, let us all know how he's doing once you find out please.

Aw man, I totally suck! I clipped the girls' wings yesterday and you know what I realized? Their poop shelf and roosts are way too high now! They can't get enough lift on the way up or down, so they are majorly struggling to get up there, and when they jump down they have no wings to catch them on the way down so they slam into the shavings on the floor. Good thing it's deep litter but my 2 babies look to have injuries to their beaks or combs right by their nostrils, so I think they hit the ground hard. Now I have GOT to figure out a way to lower that shelf TOMORROW before someone gets really hurt :( I hope it's screwed in, not nailed...but I think it's nailed.

On a good note...*someone* rearranged the straw in one of the nest boxes today and made a little circle to sit in!!! No eggs yet, but they're getting close! I have dummy eggs in every nest box for now, just got some more today from Amazon :)

Is there any way you could put something like a box in there so that they can take it in two jumps?

Yes, I think I'm going to snag one from the garage tonight before I head to bed; I would hate to cause an injury! I've been meaning to lower it anyway; right now it's at my belly button height (or higher? I'm short!) and it's really hard to scoop the darn thing at the back right now!

Thank you! The pictures got me and my 3 kids laughing.

Imp - yes, it is the boy who was on the news tonight. Incidentally, I drove by the accident just minutes after it happened and saw all the medics. I had a really bad feeling and tried to call the station owner's wife to see if they needed my help. I didn't know it was my Webelos, and I was actually afraid something happened to one of them. Turns out, she was trying to get a-hold of me at my home phone since the boy was in my den, but we never managed to connect. Her husband leads another den, so at least the boy knew him. Gosh, I could have stayed with him while they tracked down his family.

The good news about that accident - I think our school can be credited for saving his life. Our school had a bike event and the firemen came to it and gave out free helmets. The boy did not have a helmet prior to that event.

Well good news (and Jessica, you may be interested in knowing this if your birds have injured beaks), I checked out Drama's beak while I was snuggling her. Her top beak is almost grown back - just a teensy, teensy bit of an under-bite. She has sharpened the new growth and totally looks normal again.

Jessica, I'm sorry about your birds. Too bad I won't be around for a while - otherwise I'd be right over to help you lower that roost. I hope you are able to get it done.

Well, I guess I better pack.
