Sigh. My cousin just said on Facebook that they used to have chickens; 5 hens, who averaged 6 eggs per day. Um...that's not even possible, right? Perhaps I have wrong info, but I just seem to think she's lying through her teeth. Why do people do that?

While it is not totally impossible...it is pretty implausible.

I have heard of chickens that lay more than one egg per day, and I have even had one hen lay two eggs in one day - but there was usually something wrong with one of the eggs. Like a fart egg, or a shell-less egg. And it's only happened a couple times, not daily.

She'd have to have two pretty incredible chickens and three normal ones to get those numbers

As for your pullet - I think she is a pullet

My EEs did not lay for over six months, and my Ameracaunas took even longer, one was at the end of seven months and the other over eight! So I wouldn't be too concerned unless she starts crowing.

Cloverleaf Farms....where is that? Wondering if she breeds Salmon Faverolles? Are those good egg layers? I think I want a couple of those next spring, or whenever my first pullet goes broody ;)

Quote: That's what I thought about my cousin Dawn, she's not entirely reliable anyway. I almost wonder if she had a massive brain fart while typing and meant to say she averaged 5 eggs a day from 6 hens? That would be MUCH more plausible ;)

I also think Martha is a pullet I just got nervous when Laya laid first (less mature overall, and smaller) and I read somewhere that a 3-row comb means the EE is a cockeral. Well, judging by the pics, Martha definitely has 3 rows of bumps across her nose, but I still think that can be wrong info. She's squatting too, which I don't believe roosters do.

Cloverleaf is in Canby, OR. She breads BEAUTIFUL Salmon Faverolles. My hen always laid wonderfully. EXTREMELY submissive, though. I had to keep her away from hens that were too dominant.
