Cloverleaf Farms....where is that? Wondering if she breeds Salmon Faverolles? Are those good egg layers? I think I want a couple of those next spring, or whenever my first pullet goes broody ;)
She is in the greater Portland, OR area. She has some of the best Fav's you will find. And in fact she was just here and we had an awesome visit all afternoon. I am kind of so in trouble. See Jeanine came to pick up some birds that I was to get for her!

Well I totally blew it so now will be making a trip to her place soon.

Here's a great chance to help out area food banks and get into the Evergreen State Fair for free.
Anyone who shows up at the fair's two Fridays, August 24 and August 31, between when the gates open at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. with three cans of food will get into the fair for free as part of the Food Cares Food Drive.
KOMONews.com, KOMO-TV and KOMO Newsradio are major sponsors of the food drive this coming Friday, August 24.
All of the food collected will be distributed by the Snohomish County Food Bank Coalition to food banks throughout the county. The group helped over 100,000 families in the county in the past year.
It's the perfect chance to get into the fair for free and help out people in the county. How perfect is that?
Don't forget that the first day of the Evergreen State Fair is this Thursday. The first three hours that it is open on Thursday are free, as well!

I am going on Friday to visit Tamara. Her girls are showing poultry for 4-H. I want to see the other chickens too. I would love to go see the open class too but I have to work!

I am going to visit with Tamara and then go check out some bunnies!

Because I want a couple. And then I am going to go get me some fair food! I know it's bad for you, but once a year I love it!

LOL I am so tempted to get this and turn it into hatchery/chicken supply room. Got a buddy that converted one into his gaming room by running power. They are pretty well insulated

Quote: I have some of her LF Salmon Favs. I love them! I am going to try breeding them next spring and see how I do. I got a great pair from her and hatched some eggs and kept the cockerel and two of the best pullets. I will see what I have when they all grow up, then go from there.

See I guess what I'm having a hard time deciding is if I want a bunch of mediocre laying GORGEOUS birds running around the backyard, or if I want to only feed them if they're giving us an excellent amount of eggs; so far I haven't found a truly pretty bird I want to have around, that also lays a lot of eggs. I don't like the look of RIRs or most of the other production breeds. Can you guys recommend birds that are pleasing to the eye and lay at least 70-80% of the time?

Black Stars (black with red feathers/feather edges on the chest and face) are very nice birds. I've had two and they've both been wonderful, very calm and sweet. When the sun hits them, they're green (maybe blue and purple too)! Mine have been very reliable layers.
