Harsh words? Moi? Methinks some folks might have slightly thin skin around here compared to what I am used to on Internet fora. From now on I will keep that in mind. I think calling other people's chickens "mutts" is pretty harsh, actually, (unless that's how they refer to their own chickens), and that was what I was responding to. I think I was actually rather polite about it. And for the record, I have been reading this thread for a couple of months, just haven't participated much until now.
Double post.

Here are a few pics of my mealworm containers. I am going to start farming them again.

I know that CC wanted to know what containers some people use.
These are 16 qt Sterilite containers. I got them from another BYC'er, SillyChickens.

I got my Bran meal from the feed store in a #50 bag. It sits in the chest freezer in the garage. You either need to freeze it for a long time or bake it to kill any larvae that turn into moths. This bag has been in my freezer since last year.

I have yet to get the mealworms and put potato halves in, but you get the idea.
Trish, I don't know what the guy used to glue the screen on, but I am sure you know of something that will work. I am thinking some sort of apoxy?

Quote: Mixed breed would work, too, but I'm not convinced mutt is a harsh word. I like mutts. They're generally pretty healthy. I think there's room for pure breeds and mutts. Whatever suits a person's purposes is what they should have.

To set the record straight. Dana I think and hope that you know me well enough to know that I was NOT berating you or your birds. After all I probably have one of the widest selections of mutts around starting with my self. As some of you know I do also have some SQ birds.
When I first joined this thread it was a pretty common practice to ease in, watch, listen (read) and get to know others before lashing out at someone for voicing their opinion which had just been requested. Sharing information is what helps us all grow and learn. I will continue to share my opinion (with in the rules) especially when requested. If you can't handle that or don't like it..... build a bridge and get over it!!!!

Oh good heavens I know that Rob. I was just as surprised as you when my stream of consciousness comment caused such an uproar.

I'm completely over it. Back to my normal state of obliviousness. Shine it on brothers and sisters!

Yeah, well, I just got ticked off on the Serama thread.  I finally reached my "bully" limit and had to say something- I can't stand a bully.  I have, most assuredly, stirred up a hornet's nest but so be it.

That being said, I am hardly in a position to judge others :)

Sheila :)

I have heard things can get quite mean spirited on the Serama thread which is why many have leapt to private Serama groups on Facebook.

Wow those are nice containers! I've considered meal worm farming but just can't commit wholeheartedly to the idea yet. It still gives me a bit of the heebie jeebies. Bugs, larva, worms.... Yeah, not yet. I'd really like to talk DH into it and let him do all the bug wrangling!
