*SIGH*

Just got done sitting out with my chickens for awhile.. looking at the area we picked to build their coops and fenced area..... I think Im gonna spend some time drawing up plans of all the ideas I have for the coops I want... keep me busy.

Im kinda bummed a bit, my "little girl" had her first day of High School today. Today was just an Orientation day but it counts as an official school day.. Seems crazy to me that I have a High Schooler... its just not possible that my curly haired little mess maker is that old.... Well at least the chickens didn't mind me crying a bit...after I let them out and gave them their treats they paid me no attention. Minus my one hen "Tails" she was on my lap chattering to me :) Always one with a extra bit of personality :)

Hi there, I just moved from Marysville to the Stanwood area. Just got 3 chickens, not sure what types they are though. I have looked at pictures but alot of them look awfully similar. (One black and white speckled, one mostly dark brown with a light brown head, and one reddish). They free range from about 9-4 then are penned for the rest of the night. I am here to learn...

Hi there everyone! Does anyone in the Snohomish area have any new baby chicks? I have a very determined broody hen that just won't quit. I am thinking I'm going to have to get her a baby before she starves herself. I know its late in the season but does anyone have any oopseys they want to get rid of??? I just want one, I already have too many chickens!

I have some friends in Tukwila who had TWO batches of oopsies this year! I think one batch is still quite young - less than a month - if that is what you want. The others were hatched back in the spring. I'm sure they'd be happy to give one to a good home, however I think you should get at least two because it's far easier for them to adjust to a new flock that way, in my experience.

Monroe Farm & Feed still has chicks.

I've been MIA for a couple of weeks and holy smokes, I had 1,000 new posts to catch up on just on this thread!! Needless to say, I was not even going to try to thoroughly read them all but I did skim through them. Sounds like many of you have been just as busy as we have w/family visits, vacations, fishing trips, anniversaries etc... Anyway, I hope everyone has had a great summer, we've definitely had great weather this year!!
I have great and exciting news, our 22 week old Black Sex link started laying a few days ago!!!! Wahoooo!!! It's awesome! We've never had chickens before so when I was able to make my family breakfast with our very own homegrown eggs, it was the best feeling ever!!! I can't wait until my other 4 girls start laying, wow, that's gonna be great!! It felt like it took fooooooor evvvvveeeerrrrrrrr, to get the first egg!
Now that our roo is all grown up he's a funny character. He does some funny little dances, and makes interesting noises. I don't know what it all means but it's definitely entertaining. He dances around, squats real low to the ground and does this funny shake/vibrate thing, like I said, I have no idea why he does this, sometimes the girls come running, sometimes they completely ignore him, but it makes me giggle. He also dances around them in a sideways kinda circle, I'm guessing he's trying to "woo" them. Anyway, it's funny and I enjoy watching them.

Ok, I just wanted to stop in and say hi! Have a great day everyone!!

Well hello! Long time no see BYC Fam! Missed you all bunches! DD Chloe just turned 4! And Baby Emily is 4 months old now! Already starting to get big!

I dont know if CL told you all or not, but pretty much my entire flock was wipped out by a mink. Just ironic that they were safer IN the trees than in the coop... I had finally gotten my girls convinced that the coop was a good place to be. And then in one night, all but one was killed. So I now have one lonely and very friendly banty han, who thinks she should be a house chicken!

Its been a crazy busy summer this year, lots of dirt, lots of kids, and way to much to do before winter gets here.

My DH and I have agreed that we will replace the flock next spring. Just have too much to do with the girls, dogs, and horses, let alone the property to be raising more birds. I do miss them, and will have a small flock again next year. Think I will just stick to barnyard birds. My desire to show has flown out the window. Had WAY to many set backs with the Ameraucanas. Maby when my DD's are older I will try again, but that wont be for a long time.

My DH and I are sitting on some fairly hard times right now, but we are doing ok. Both still working, and doing our best to keep ourselves afloat. Its been a hard year so far.

Anyway! I will be around more frequently, or at least try to be.
