5 out of 9 eggs are pipped. It looks like one of them is starting to zip. They are actually due tomorrow night.

I have to keep that pest of an EE locked up. She keeps trying to steal the eggs. She's currently in the pen with the broody silkie, but there is enough of a size difference that all she manages to do is sit on the silkie who doesn't care and won't move. I also witnessed the silkie come back from her break and shove her way under the pest. Maybe she can get eggs out of that critters head.

My Belgians like to go broody and will pile up in one nest box. I might find two sitting on a third like they're trying to suffocate her. It's so funny.

Oh - Hi T how you doing?
I blame myself, but I have had enablers... lol and reading everyone on here hasn't helped. My family thinks I've gone crazy, but I love it.

Well, count me in!! My former husband thinks that I am going through some kind of weird mid-life crisis (seriously). He really does not get it and likely never will. We are good friends (been divorced since 2001), so it's okay, he means well :)

I love hearing the sounds they make and laugh at their antics (ESPECIALLY the "I caught a bug" chase game!)

But when it is all said and done, they make me happy and that is all that counts!!

So Welcome to the Funny Farm!! LOL!

Hi there, I just moved from Marysville to the Stanwood area. Just got 3 chickens, not sure what types they are though. I have looked at pictures but alot of them look awfully similar. (One black and white speckled, one mostly dark brown with a light brown head, and one reddish). They free range from about 9-4 then are penned for the rest of the night. I am here to learn...

Hi and WELCOME!!!

The Washingtonians thread moves pretty fast and there are a lot of people with decades of experience, so feel free to ask any and all questions-- no such thing as a silly question!!

Have fun!

Sheila :)

*SIGH*

Just got done sitting out with my chickens for awhile.. looking at the area we picked to build their coops and fenced area..... I think Im gonna spend some time drawing up plans of all the ideas I have for the coops I want... keep me busy.

Im kinda bummed a bit, my "little girl" had her first day of High School today. Today was just an Orientation day but it counts as an official school day.. Seems crazy to me that I have a High Schooler... its just not possible that my curly haired little mess maker is that old.... Well at least the chickens didn't mind me crying a bit...after I let them out and gave them their treats they paid me no attention. Minus my one hen "Tails" she was on my lap chattering to me :) Always one with a extra bit of personality :)

My Mom told me that the two days she didn't enjoy was the day I first began school and the day I started high school. Must be a "Mom" thing :) Looks like you found a good way to spend it!!

Sheila :)

I have almost $2000 into a serama coop. Something I can insulate and have a heater for them. I am constantly on the look for dog kennels/runs that people are selling as they make great chicken cages. I had traded in my F150 (truck) for a smaller car - now I will have a hard time hauling birds to shows (unless I use husband's dodge). So I keep looking at vans/small RV things, saying..."Look my chicken mobile". I am sure the DH thinks I am totally nuts. I thoroughly enjoy my birds.

Ummm, not really THAT nuts. I DID buy a Class A motorhome so that I could travel with my fur-kids in comfort. The photo, below, is the day I bought it (my old travel trailer is behind it). I have added a full length awning and it has tons of storage (in the outside basement and inside cabinets) plus every bell and whistle available for it's year. I got her for a song as the prior owners were going through a divorce (8K below low blue). If I travel, to bird shows, the birds will be traveling in comfort too! LOL!

Has anyone ever used "pinless peepers"? I am pretty darn sure I've got a feather picker in the flock, but it's impossible to determine who. It would have started during those 3 months when the girls were confined to their run when we had the wild dogs on the other side of our wire fence, but it appears it's continuing even though they are free ranging every day now. Looks like a bad habit began and hasn't let up. I'm certain it's not molting. Beards are being plucked and one or two spots on the back. Bad girls.

BTW - since we spent thousands of dollars to build our beautiful wooden fence early this summer so I could have peace in my yard again it appears we may have lost those neighbors (the owner and her two "renters") and their wild dogs permanently. I haven't seen hide nor hair of them for at least 3 weeks. I was pretty sure it would be a transient situation since they seemed flaky.
No matter. The money is spent now, we have a beautiful fence and I suppose it's added value to the house even though I'll be here until my daughter has to move her feeble mother out of here.

Anyway - I'd like a little feedback on the pinless peepers if anyone has any experience with them. I've heard they can be pretty effective against the feather picking.
Thanks!

Does anyone want 2 splash Silkie cockerels? They are very sweet and will follow you around and take treats from your hand. I need them gone by Monday. Thanks.

Cockerel #1 Was Ethel May, now Ethan

How do I get off this ramp again?!

Cockerel #2 Was Lucy, Now Louie

Not splash...two very handsome blue boys though!
