I got my second egg today. When I cooked them both were double yolked and awesome.![]()
Often new layers will lay small or even tiny eggs. They are referred to as "wind" eggs or "fart" eggs. They also commonly will not have a yolk. They should start laying larger eggs quickly. How large depends on the breed, nutrition and health of the hen. The roo has nothing to do with egg size; (well except maybe in his own mind). As hens age their eggs will get larger.![]()

How big is your BO? I have a couple right now from Rainwolf; A cockeral and hopefully a pullet(not laying) and they are easily the largest chickens I've ever had.
My first 2 chickens were BO. 1 normal LF size the other a bit smaller, and both laid L-XL size eggs. I got both as layers so I don't know about their first eggs.

Lovemybabies - it's just because they're new layers. The only med/lg eggs we've gotten so far from our flock of 20-23 week olds were double yolkers. All the others have simply been small eggs or even peewee, but they're slowly getting bigger each time the same chicken lays another egg. HTH!
Wow! Both from the same chicken? I often wonder if double yolkers have to be from a chicken who skips a laying day and then lays a double yolker the next day? Or could a single chicken lay 2 double yolkers 2 days in a row? Anyway, congrats!!! I am still 100% in love with checking for eggs. When I got back from church and checked for the first time today, there were 4 in one nest! They all lay in the same nest and hate all the other options I've provided. What will they do when all 11 of them want to lay at the same time in the morning?![]()
