Finally home after a busy day!

Started the day with the middle school bus breaking down, so had to drive my two youngest DD's to the middle school (25 minute drive ONE way!!!! From Monroe to Carnation!) Not a fun start to the day.

Then I visited with BYC'ers!!!!

First I stopped at RobB's house, and picked up some bantam chicks one of his broodies hatched out for me!

Than I went to Rainwolf's and picked up two splash Ameraucana babies from Poseidon!!

Then I met JennS and sold her some BLRW hatching eggs!!

Came home, dropped off all the babies and got them set up, then had to drive BACK to Carnation to pick the girls up after their sports practices!!!!

Now I'm recovering from all that driving around before I make dinner!

Hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine today!!!!

I've been looking at clear corrugated panels. Dunn Lumber carries a cheaper panel made from PVC, which costs $13.01 per 8' sheet. Is PVC a bad choice? I worry about chemicals from the roof in the runoff contaminating the soil around the pen and finding its way into the eggs. Am I being paranoid? Here is the manufacturer: http://www.palram.com/palruf

I called the ReStore, Second Use, and Earthwise, and nobody has any corrugated plastic roofing in stock.

The first question I would ask is what is the life of this product?? and (if it is clear) how long will it stay clear??

I used the clear paneling for the roof on my run (it is really lightweight, which was nice when I thought I could keep my set-up portable), but quickly realized it caused something like a greenhouse effect and didn't provide any shade for the chooks, so I gave it a couple layers of spray paint to make it opaque. Might be nice for the extra light in the winter, but I didn't think it was worth baking them in the summer...if I were doing it again I would go with a solid color or the smokey one. In my case...it stayed clear for about a week :p.

OMG! I'm laughing now... but geez... just about had a panic attack. My husband just came into the house with a box that had been shipped next day air. The box has "rush" & "perishable" written all over it. He came in scolding me that I must not have cancelled with the guy I was planning to buy Brahma eggs from. I told him I never even gave him my mailing address. He didn't believe me.

We opened the box. There was a cooler inside. DH is still telling me I must have ordered *something* and it better not be eggs. I kept saying I didn't. "I swear! I didn't!" He's still not believing me. So we opened the cooler. Guess what was inside?

His eye medication! LOL!

Whew! I'm off the hook! I know I'm getting to be middle-aged, but I couldn't for the life of me remember what I could have possibly ordered.

DH went outside and said he was really tired of the spiders all over the yard and he was getting spider killer. I said "No!" and suggested that we knock them down and feed them to the chickens. So we did. It was kind of fun. I dropped my kid off at piano lessons and asked his piano teacher if I could have the spider that was hanging on the door. She gave me a very funny look before saying "Um, sure." The spider rode home on my checkbook and was delivered to Drama. The girls had their fill of spiders. Drama's not afraid of eating anything. The other two are - well - chicken. We followed the spider feast up with leftover watermelon, which they are now happily eating. Drama had to be first. The other two were, again - chicken! I think the girls are having a good day today. Thank goodness they have Drama around to show them what to do.
