They do help keep predators out of the yard, and I put dog poop over newly planted bulbs to keep the squirrels from digging them up.

Raz may regret spending the money on his stepson rather than his dog, but he did put his stepson before the dog.
I think the supprot is for the idea that dogs are worth their expense.

Honestly, I didn't take his post as anti-human and certainly not chauvinistic. Go ahead and view me as naive (it's not the first time)!! It seems like he was making a statement as to how his dog caused him less problems than his stepson. I have no idea what his entire situation with his step-son is so I refuse to judge him as a dad. I would have to agree that, for me anyway, dogs can be less stressful and easier to be around. Puppies are far easier to raise, haha!! That being said, although I love my dogs IMMENSELY I would never choose their welfare over my daughter's. But I'm sure that goes for virtually everyone!

You are very right. When I posted that they didn't give anything back, I certainly wasn't thinking of dogs in that fashion. I have a friend who is training a dog for the blind, so, yes, I know many dogs give back... for certain! I wasn't meaning it that way. I was totally focusing on my frustrations with dogs I have had experiences with. Our hunting dog, other than companionship and hunting, he even became a frustration after my kids were born. Suddenly he went from being the favorite kid in the family to my having to protect the babies from him. So, that skewed my thought process regarding dogs, as well. We found it difficult to retrain an old dog who lived most of his life being third in the pack to finding himself becoming fourth, and then seventh when the twins were born. He was 9 or 10 when my first child was born, and he just didn't handle a child coming into the family very well.![]()
I read your recent post about your fear of dogs because of being attacked multiple times. I'm so sorry that happened to you, that's horrible and terrifying!
Irresponsible owners really annoy me too and they make me so mad. We have a pit bull, her name is Chloe. She's the best dog I've ever had and trust me, I've had my fair share of dogs.

Anyway, I'm really sorry for your bad experiences with dogs, I'm sure that would make it hard for many people to feel a warm and fuzzy towards them after that. And, no worries, I never took offense to anything anyone said, I was just stating my feelings on the matter.
