Well we have been devistated with a large scale attack on my chickens
th.gif
. This morning my SIL and I went out to do rounds and found feathers, blood and body parts every where
hit.gif
. I am missing about 11 hens, 5 of which were just begining to check out nest boxes to begin laying.

I am so sorry!

It's probably easier to hope it was a wild animal, huh? I went through neighbor's dog attack in my back yard (my chicken was OK), and it got pretty ugly. Now, I'm dealing with a neighbor's cat - and they have told me to just spray it with water... like I'm there to spray it with water every time it comes in my yard.

Hugs as you go through all this.

Jessica,

This is how I blocked the gaps in the chainlink. Mostly to keep the chickens in. But on the run to keep possums out.
In some places I used I used a longer piece of railing to run from ground to top of fence.

So I went to the Puyallup Fair this weekend and feel like I must have missed a poultry barn! There were maybe 7 bantams, A bunch of chicks, 1 Americauna and 3 Turkens. Now I know we have more chickens then that in Washington! Heck most people on this forum have more chickens! Anyone else disappointed in the chicken display at the fair or did I just completely miss a poultry barn?

Hey thanks!! I've been wondering what to do. In one gap between house and fence I just stood up a concrete block there and it kept chickens in. I have a spot on the other side of the house that has a wood board up against it but needs something sturdier. I'll have DH take a look at this and figure it out with me.

You missed it. It was right next to the 4H Horses (to the right of it). There were hundreds of chickens there! Bummer you didn't find it!

Hi Renee!

Does anyone happen to know if it's legal to shoot a dog who is attacking my own animal on my own property? Because if so, I plan to keep my gun on top of the refrigerator in case of any incidents.

I believe it depends on your city. I *think* in my city I have to call animal control. I'm not positive. I should look into that. We've talked about getting a pellet gun (those plastic BB-like things) to shoot, but I still think we could get in trouble for that. We'll have to check into it before we invest in one. They're not cheap. I tell ya, there are days where all I want to do is sit out in my back yard, in camouflage, be ready and take aim!

My neighbor gave me permission to spray her cat with water. The cat runs off the minute I step out the door, so that's never gonna happen. That thing is in my back yard terrorizing my birds quite often.

Quote: That's 2 railing connectors and 1 clamp. I like that it doesn't show up, just kind of blends in. The pieces are dirt cheap to buy.
The reason it doesn't go all the way down to the ground is that's where the outside cats squeeze through the fence.

When we were there, there were hundreds of them. Do people not keep them there through the entire fair? I would have been disappointed if that is all I saw. Seeing the chickens was the reason my husband and I went.

I've been bugging my husband to tear down our old wood fence and switch to chain link. Hmmm... maybe not now. I didn't realize chain link had gaps large enough for an animal to squeeze through.
