No matter how educated you feel your kids are about guns my suggestion is to buy a gun box.
They have a few digits you preset.
Just like a key box but much faster and the lid flips open for quick access.
Takes two seconds to have access to your gun and you can have that box anywhere you want for quick access.
If the kids don't know the numbers they can't get to it.

A gun not loaded due to kids is a worthless gun.
A gun safe box solves that problem.

Now on the run, I have found possums helping themselves to a layena snack.

Because if so, I plan to keep my gun on top of the refrigerator in case of any incidents.

Oh yeah we have one. DH has one that the kids can't reach yet, even with a chair or step stool; mines locked in a box, the rest are in the safe. :)

Just called Reber and had them hold the last can of Blu Kote for me. DH is going to pick it up in a couple hours so I can treat my newbies bums with it; maybe just the Marans, but I actually think I noticed the EE has some red bottom too. Oh well, nothing to worry about since I have meds on the way. My girls are furious that the newbies are in the run. They've been screaming at them all day. I let a couple of them in to see what would happen and there wasn't anything major, no huge scuffles, so maybe tomorrow when I give them all access to free range the yard it won't be as bad. Will be nice to already have BluKote in case of a bad fight though. All this stress adding birds, I'm so glad these are my last! I just can't take the added daily drama! LOL

I'd even go a step further and use a gun lock on the gun - even if it is inside a box. If a gun box has push buttons, you never know when a kid might figure it out - or be watching from behind when the parent doesn't know he or she is there.

Morning CR! Morning Dawn! Morning Kim!

I've asked this before but I have 2 extra geese, haven't been able to sell them on CL and the Tacoma Meat Market has closed. Does anyone know where I can get geese processed in the Tacoma area? Flock dynamics were better with 3 geese than 5.
I know this is a long shot but.... Contact Salmon Creek meats in Salkum/Mossyrock. Her family were the owners of TMM and she may be able to put you in touch with the guy who bought them out.

Ok so the head count is 21 hens 3 roosters! There are definately 11 gone and with the huge mess there was, I am not very hopeful for any to show back up. Out of the 21 hens I have 3 with chicks, 3 that are broody, and 2 that are visibly moulting so the rest have to be hiding eggs to where I only get 3 or 4 eggs in the coop.

I need help...my girls are not cooperating!! Hahaha, like that's news, right?! Lol

I have 5 LF hens that are all of egg laying age. Some are laying, some maybe are not?? I'm not really sure how many are actually laying because my girls treat the nesting boxes like they have the plague! I have 1 hen that will lay in the boxes if they are locked in the chicken house 24/7 for a few days in a row but as soon as they are let out she forgets all about the box. The other eggs will be laid on the floor if they are even laid at all. Other then that, they lay out in the chicken yard under blackberry bushes and stinging neetles...boy oh boy it's fun to get eggs outta those nests!

Stinging neetles are not called "stinging" for kicks n giggles let me tell ya!
I have tried some of the tricks I've heard about to encourage them to lay in the boxes, like placing golf balls in the boxes, locking them in the chicken house, putting one of their eggs in the box, setting the hens in the boxes, trying different types of bedding......nope, not workin!

Any other ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm right there with you. With my friends home flock either only half the ladies are laying or only half are laying in the boxes... and her roo is not the nicest... I don't even try to go looking for the eggs outside the coop; way, way to many brambles.
