I have one egg left in the carton. That's so bad when I have 11 laying hens currently all laying eggs. We eat too many eggs! Grr. Only got 5 eggs today and we ate 11 for dinner.

Jessica~ Can you share how you use so many eggs? I am struggling to use ours, just from 2 laying hens (family of 4)

Yeah, that's right along my line of thinking too

Wa law does allow one to "protect" livestock. But some city, county laws may get in the way. See I live so far out in the styx they have to pipe daylight to me so most laws ........Well lets just say they aren't very effective here!!!

I know...we are IN Covington city limits unfortunately, and not allowed to fire weapons in the city...I wonder if there's a protection of livestock caveat. I will call city hall later and find out.

Probably not -- a good pellet gun will take down a medium to small sized dog - provided the shot is well placed.

You are not the only one. I have 3 laying hens / family of 5 (4 who can actually eat eggs). I told DH he and the kids better get on the stick and eat some eggs, cause I'm now filling my 2nd box, and I only want one box in the fridge at a time.

Our 4-H books arrived tonight. I think the kids are going to love them. We got Junk Drawer Robotics, Electricity, Aerospace, Poultry and Sewing. We also got the National Science Day kit. Now we just have to figure out what to start first. I'm thinking

and Junk Drawer Robotics.

Oh my gosh... a chicken just about drowned on Survivor!

Anybody coming down from up north any time soon?? RainyDayChicken has 2 girlie ducks for me, but it's 3 1/2 hours one way for me to go get them. She's in Port Orchard. I can make it up to Chehalis and back during the day while my son's at school, but that's about it....?????

My other sickness is gardening. Always another plant I can't live without.
Here are some summer blooms.
Wish you all could smell these David Austin roses....
These are absolutely beautiful!!!
By the way, what are those wonderful orange-yellow sunflower or daisy like flowers in your front yard? I thought they were very attractive.

About chicken math...

My intention was to have 3 chickens.
It is still my intention.
Oh well.

When folks ask me how many I have, I say I have 3 very social chickens who enjoy having friends stay overnight.
You know the type - those "roost- surfers" who just never find a place of their own.
Mostly my problem has been those cute chicks that send messages like "take me home" and
"choose me, choose me"

I'm having the hardest time staying focused on work today.
The pleasure of working from home - so easy to visit the chickens, wander through the gardens, pick a few beets, look at photos on BYC....
OK, I'm going to work now, really, I am!

Love this photo!

I also have 3 chickens that always have friends over...a dozen at a time! =)

I don't know if this will stir up a hornet's nest, but should I vaccinate my chicks when they hatch? If so, which vaccines? I was hoping to talk to one of my exotic vets today about it, but I found out she will be out of the country for the rest of the month.

What chicken diseases are common here?

Jennifer
