My heated water bowl turns on and off according to the ambient automatically. It goes on at 35 and off at 45.

Why do some people have chickens? ugh! I just replied on a forum where someone was feeding their chickens scratch for feed and were worried about why they weren't laying yet at only 21 weeks. I told him/her first to feed the chickens real chicken food, not treats, and that it's normal for chickens not to be laying quite yet at 21 weeks. She asked about their crowns getting red and I had to tell her it's a comb/wattles. Do people really just jump right into hobbies without reading anything at all? I feel so sorry for her animals!

This is so awsome. Me and #1 son have been brain stormin' about hot boxes for next year to start plants. I have a 4 x 4 skylite I can use as a cover. I "think" (yes dangerous thing for me) I may have a source for the glass inserts. got my fingers crossed.
Thanks for the pics.
What glass inserts ?
WE used OSB (the road to hell is paved with OSB) and 1/2 styrofoam board (you can use more) and if you make one, by all means use plywood.
And paint it to preserve it, I did not.
I circled the heat tape around, DH cut the plug off & wired nutted to a wafer thermometer, and ran an extension cord to the wafer.
Then plug it in to soften the heat tape, and...
Circle the heat tape around, and add piles of sand to hold in place.
Then cover all with 2-3" sand.
Now pot your plants & starts.

Easy, and fun !

I'm so happy tonight! Our cat Sasuke went missing when we did our major backyard renovations...he was the only one I couldn't track down and put inside while we were working, and I hoped that it was just a matter of all the noise and change freaking him out and he'd come home after the dust settled. He's fixed and usually isn't gone more than a couple of hours at a time, just long enough to bring me dead vermin presents.. After a couple days, I asked the neighbors (the whole block knows our cats, they're the best ratters around), posters went up, craigslist ads posted, talked to the Humane Society (he's microchipped, so they assured me everyone gets scanned when they come in and we'd get a call if he turned up there), but no leads, no bodies in the road, nothing. It's been two weeks to the day since he took off, and now he's home! I was sitting here browsing and heard a little meow at the window, and he jumped in like it was no big deal. He's definitely lost some weight, but no signs of injury or illness...just a hungry kitty glad to be getting some love. Life is so good right now.

Yay!! I'm so happy for you!! It's always hard when a pet disappears. I'm so glad he found his way home to you!

I've always felt very comfortable asking fellow BYCers questions, so thanks for that everyone!

Ron, I can vouch for the effectiveness of a Brabanter rooster (can't say anything about Appenzellers). Mine chased a small hawk away and my Belgian lived to tell the tale. He sees the Stellar's Jays come in and charges over to the feeder because he thinks they might be a threat. He's smart enough to see that I'm not a threat to the girls (I cuddle and pet them all the time), so he doesn't call them away from me. If the Appenzellers are as smart and bold as Brabanters, you can't lose.
My Turkeys kick BUTT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
