Me too. But I think Ren has a glass aquarium brooder for now and they really hold in the heat. I would be cautious with that setup too. When I brooded my chicks inside, they had a 2'x4' plywood brooder with a mesh top. There was a nice LARGE area to roam and play that was room temperature, and a very small hot spot they'd go to get warm in a corner. With a small aquarium you can't really do that.

So the black one (the one standing tall) came out of the olive egg.

The other dark ones came out of brown eggs. They look almost exactly alike. I'm trying to pick out distinguishing features so we can remember who is who. I'm guessing their names are going to get confused a lot.

The yellow one came out of a white egg.

Any idea on what sex they may be at this young of an age? I've heard some breeds can be sexed by color. I don't know anything about Salmon Faverolles and CR didn't know which hen(s) laid which eggs.

Happened to me a few times, then I got smart, (smarter than the stink butts)
And picked the sticky cardboard off the sending unit at the end of the wire, and DH filled the cavity with silicone caulking...just needs a dab, and now I can see the tiny red dot, but nothing can get at it & peck it out.
Lost 2-3 thermometers before I figured it out !!

You can use shrink tubing over the tip of the wire/sending unit too, air can still get in, but stink butts cannot.

Pure bred salmon Favs can be sexed by color at about 3-4 weeks of age, but mixes....nope. ;)

Hmm...genetics calculator is showing salmon x cuckoo = barred males, black females.....I dunno....

Yeah sometimes you have to take barred birds (pullets) back to the Salmon (or Wheaten) male....
You do with Golden Cuckoo, Silver Cuckoo (silver crele) so probably, if the tall chick from the olive egg is a pullet, breed her back to Fudge, but that may be a chore............

We're working on building the brooder. The heat lamp is currently sitting about 2.5 feet (possibly 3 feet) above the top rim of the tank. I slept in a chair right next to the tank last night so I could watch them and try to get them at the right temp. They're active, and playing and don't huddle, so I hope we have the temp stabilized now.
