Hi all, my husband I just moved to Kettle Falls, WA (Northeast) and we're looking for a homestead so that we can raise chickens (among other self sustainable ventures). If anyone is in the area, please get in touch. I don't know many people yet and I would love to find a community here!

alas, I am on the wet side of the hills. This forum moves very quickly, hang on tight. You will find the people here very helpful and respectful. Need info? just post the question and you'll be sure to get factual answers.

Quote: There was a time I had a suit for every day of the week, a couple were tailor made for me. Then I wore a uniform and even had that tailored to fit me. Then one day I said enough. Got rid of the suits, the ties and the "dress" shoes. Never looked back and became much happier person. Today as in my youth I still prefer jeans and flannel shirts or jeans and a T-shirt. I guess it's true, what goes around, comes around.

Strangely enough, I just got that catalogue last night.

The SILTB and I just got the lumber for the chicken coop where I need it; forgot to move pavers, argh, but that's for the airlock. The big problem is getting things from the end of the driveway to the chicken yard; there's a set of shallow steps, right at the beginning, or unwiring a piece of fence (was a gate there, but the dogs figured out how to open it) With two people it's easy; with me alone it's as much work as I can do for one load, and I have a lot else to get done.

I've got...maybe ten minutes? to get ready for working cattle this afternoon, and that involves moving the sheep away from the cow path. Best get on it: he's been penned up for most of a week, and is displeased with me.

Call me crazy. I know they are only three days old. But, I wonder if Cocoa and Rocha are boys. They both have the cutest little combs and both are quick to run up and peck the hand that feeds them while the other two hide out at the opposite end of the tank. If they aren't boys, they're sure going to give Rhodie a run for her money.

Last night DH and I were discussing who we would get rid of if all four turned out to be girls. DH didn't hesitate at all and said "Rhodie!" I think he might be biased toward his tiny little hatch-lings.
