Not that I have ever heard...I was told it is a problem with the Uric acid that can build up or some such.
Geeze, don't tell my Dad that it is a auto immune disorder, he thinks I am a weak idiot (hyper condriac) and have every auto immune disorder that has ever been 'invented'.
I actually only have 1: Celiac Disease (but that has tons of symptoms) but I inherited it(the gene) from his side of the family, and his mother, my granny, had RA extremely bad, classic deformed fingers and toes from age 55 or so to age 70 or so..classic.
She also had dry eyes (Sjoren's (sp?) and cold sores which I now realize were from celiac disease as well.
They were not cold sores but dermititis herpetiformia...elbows, knees, mouth to rear end, depending how much wheat you ingest and how mad the immunal system attacks the entire GI system.

So the auto immune gene runs.....................but Dad will not admit it, he has gout BAD every so often so is on meds, and has monster kidney stones so big they have to be lasered to break them up and then he can pass them.
The one getting lasered next week was the size of a golfball...and this is the second time the doc will attempt to break it up.
It is horrible.

I could be mistaken about gout being an autoimmune disease. My poor mother has osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout. I had celiac's disease as a child, but it seemed to go away after a couple of years, or maybe I'm just asymptomatic though the sores in the back of the mouth sound familiar. Time to go do some research.

A very common misconception::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::Celiac Disease NEVER goes away, you will continue to harm your intestines until you STOP consuming gluten.

Okay, if you're meeting Jessica Rabbit, where are you meeting her??!!! In Seattle?!! If so.... Any loverly pullets coming with you to, say, my house? Lol. I seriously need to stop yearning for more.

There is no cure for this. Excerpt to get more chickens. (I think that should have been said in a creepy 1950's mechanical voice, maybe from speakers hidden in the walls.)

Could the dogs be getting in a neighbor's yard or under your house perphaps finding an old (gulp!) gravesite of some long buried pet or ??????????

My old lost and gone lab LOVED the buried heads and guts of FISH!!!!! It was always black and oozy and she would just waller and rub in it, absolutely delighted with her new au-de-la-stinkfish parfume !!!!!!!

OK enough funny business.
You all recall my 1 light brahma hen with the head cold ?
She is still recovering, but since that (2 days ago) I have noticed 1 BBS marans pullet and a cockeral have come down with "the cold" as well, assuming it is contagious, I have had the entire farm on medication, first Duramycin and now have switched to Sulmet in their water.
I have heard the BBS maran pullet is a bit gurgly (wet air sac I believe) and the cockeral sneezing...
*********************************CHICKEN NUGGETS!!!!***************************************************
That is all caps, too ! I hope this is not some horrible disease !
My birds are all super healthy, vaccinated against Mareks, and 1/2 vaccinated against West Nile....fed the best feed, the cleanest house (poops gathered daily) and no visitors...and I have not gone to visit anyone in a month who has birds...so this is out of the air.
Anyone else have sneezing or "tired" birds ?
Really bad part is these kids get sick, they will not eat or drink so the drinking water with meds is useless to those alreadu sick, I have to catch them and administer liquids to them...so they get the meds.
I am wondering if picking up the Lav Orp babies next week may have to be postponed until I am positive there is no lurking virus or whatever here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I am in Sedro-Woolley, WA. (NW corner)

Got 6 chickens (the gateway poultry) and now wishing for bantam ducks.

I know I could order from Holderreads, and I still might, but I was wondering if anybody around here closer might breed Black East Indies, Austrailian Spotted, or Mini Silver Appleyards? I'd rather not ship if I don't have to. I know this is the wrong time of year, but I like to plan ahead.

So are you eating the eggs, even though you are treating for worms with Wazine every 30 days?

No eating of eggs when treating with Ivermectin, but Wazine is said to be safe, and is actually used in alot of human treatment, such as kidney stones and gout medication...my dad takes it daily...but we do not sell those eggs to anyone else lest someone have an allergy.
It is fine to feed to your dogs, and you have dogs !

I didnt have you meet my dogs! They are a pain in the butt when it comes to new people. But that is why I have them. They make great alarms, but are chickens past barking. At the moment the pullets have not started laying yet. But judging by how red the combs are getting on the older two pullets, they should start laying withing a month... but have no idea of exactly when. lol

Chloe is having one of those days where all she wants to do is cry, or get into things... So I have my hands full.

I think I am about 12 pages behind everyone else. Its been quite crazy around here this past week. We are starting our rainy season preperations early this year. Our curtain drain around our house is so overgrown with grass, that our backyard was flooded last season. Unfortunately we have A LOT of curtain drain, it wrapps all around our house, garage, and fanced in yard... Then there is the maintenance to my mothers crick, it runs between our properties, down the side of the driveway. And if it isnt cleared of plant roots, silt, or obstructions, it flows over the raised bank and rips up the easment. Then the remaining flock has discovered my pumpkins, and has eaten a hole into my biggest one. Oh well, their run will be moved out under the chestnut tree soon enough. Just need three more sets of hands to help me carry the frame out of the pasture.
