Actually my goats were meant to be blackberry and yard cleaners then put to freezer camp but my mom turned them into pets and now I can't.

Goat meat is very tasty and a good quality meat if raised correctly. I think America is one of the few places where goat meat and mutton are not common to eat.

2 tips before they get home.

Protect any tree you want to keep with something that protects the bark, chicken wire wrap or what ever you can. Make sure that wrap is higher then the goats standing on hind legs.

Fence off anything they should not get into. Rhododendrons are poisonous and they love them, they will literally eat themselves to death with rhodies.

Take any Poison list online with a grain of salt BUT use the list for a good guideline as to what not to have in pasture and also to watch them for poison signs if they do get into something on the list. http://www.npga-pygmy.com/resources/health/poisonous_plants.asp

I
will say that every year my little buggers raid my garden and clean me out of 10-15 tomato plants. I now grow twice what I plant just in case of the raid, and they are healthy happy goats... the toads..

Rainwolf, thanks for the tips on the goats!

We're going to be at the Evergreen State Fair tomorrow from roughly 10:30 (its quite a drive for us, so I'm hoping we'll make decent time) to at least after 2pm. Anyone else going that would like to meet up and say hi?

I'm bringing a couple of cages, just in case folks were thinking to sell some chickens!

And I'm planning to attend our swap, as well. So put us down

I PM'd you, but I'm afraid you missed the chickens!!! So sorry! Open class went home friday and now it's just Open Class Rabbits. There are very few birds there, and mostly pigeons and waterfowl. But I hope you have fun anyway!!!!

No room! No room!!! I told DH if he gets into breeding the goats (which he sounded wishy washy about), we need to downsize our house, and upsize our acreage! Which is something I'd like to do anyway......I dream of having a little log cabin off the grid somewhere. We were torn between Pygmy's and Nigerian Dwarf's for milking, because he want's to make our own goat cheese. We decided to start with Pygmy's and go from there after we learn a thing or two about goats in general. We also walked through the sheep barn today and he said we need to get a couple so that I could spin yarn and knit our clothes......
