Rain rain go away....of coarse it rains when we have free time to build a new coop and free wood to build it with. O'well I guess you can't have everything all at once. Wait the sun is shining!!!! It was just for for a few minutes but it still felt good. I can't wait until this weekend when we get a break from the rain. I hope everyone is wearing their raincoats and rubberboots.

Of all the geese I have had, it seems it was always the ganders that were the mean ones. But, once they learned not to be mean, they made the best pets? My female Tufted seems to be an instigator of the flock now! "She" will get her jaw a flapping at some one, and then the "gander" will attack! My female Brown chinese, just stays away. She needs a man!

I'm kinda hoping to I don't have any of the cochin & silkie crosses next year!
I already sold the pure silkie and frizzles, everything I have left are the remains of a chick population explosion! The Hubby would like me to cut back to birds that lay real eggs?

I didn't rain while I was out ealier, but started the moment I came back in! Now the sun is out again, guess I better get back to work.

Oh that's right, thewife, I remember you had lots of chickens this summer. My neighbors were interested and didn't follow through. They got 4 chicks recently.

I'll have to see if I'm in the market next year or not. I'd love to get more but that'll be peak laying time for my girls, so it might not make sense to expand my flock.

Ok what is your average monthly feed bills?? Need to know what I am going to spend out of pocket. Oh and include pine shavings cost or straw and DE if you use it. I am figureing on 5 to 8 hens. Figure I can sell extra eggs to family and friends for $2.00 bucks a dozen and offset some of the cost, don't plan on breaking even.. Just want my own fresh eggs and know exactly what my chickens ate!!!!

I bought 2 50# bags of feed in early Sept. Still on the 1st one. I've got 3 standards and 1 bantam, none of whom are laying yet (any day, right?!!).

Paid $16 for one bag and $10.11 for another. Long story why I have 2 bags boils down to a picky chicken who didn't like being switched to layer feed and went on a hunger strike.

Hey Gopherboy, want some chick grit to go with your babies? We don't need ours anymore, since our girls are eating dirt like it's going out of style over here!


And Yes I think we should consider a chickenstock for us Washintonians! We need to make a map of where everyone lives so I can visually see it, and then we could pick a central location to meet. Although, with the weather starting to turn, I think spring would be a better time to meet, what with the passes starting to get colder and possibly snowier. Not so safe there.


Anyone have any thoughts? I would love to organize this with some help.

Oooh, just had a thought. Maybe do a Seattle to Salem chickenstock and meet somewhere in the middle there....And then someone who lives in the middle of the state could organize one the Wa/ID/OR border areas? That way each of us would have to travel somewhere, but maybe not as far as if we were all to meet in the middle of the state.

Chickenstock sounds fun!

Make a list of everyone interested in attending, and there locations get a map and put a dot on the location, once all collected find the center and GO!??

Is this a good idea? If so, who wants to do it? LOL
