I had a kid going to Pioneer when I lived there. That was in 1980-1981.

The snow was in reference to the Chelan area where Worn lives now.

We have rain today in Hoquiam. After our days of sun, it should be a welcome change. It would be if I hadn't put so many things out in the yard getting ready for a yard sale on the weekend. Ah well, one way or the other, they will get out of the house and gone, even if in the trash.

I just ran out of feed again today.... For the second time this month. 8 week old chickens eat a ton of food. I wish I had some friut here to feed them today. Only thing is some fresh figs, and they are not getting my figs!

Heh, it's raining here too, and yes, it would be a welcome change if I hadn't just got the duck house up and ready to paint. Grrr... I wonder how long I have to let it dry out once it stops raining before I can start painting.

I was in Mason County. We lived on Harstine Island. We now live in Lake Chelan. We still have our farm on Harstine. It's rented out. I love it here..... 7:30 am and sunny. No Marine Layers over here!

Not my son. Son of my boyfriend at the time..... Name Leo. We were there for 1 school year. We split up soon after. Loved that little boy so much. So smart, funny and just a good kid. Miss the boy, not the father. You know. I guess he would be about 35-36 these days. I can't quite do that math today.

by the way all. It is beautiful now down here near the ocean right now. So the rain at least was passing.

I'm on the south end of Whidbey and was dismayed to find drizzle this morning when I stepped out at 5:30 to feed my peep-peeps. We are in the process of packing up for a move back into Seattle and had left out piles of stuff from the garage/shop to be sorted out. It's been so sunny and dry around here for so many days, I took it for granted. Phooey!

Lots of good stuff on the forum. I am learning a lot. Besides all the info here, I am going to go to a "class" at Gardensphere in Tacoma next week, which I am pretty excited about. Normally they have a regular class, but since it is so late in the summer, one of the owners is going to go through any questions I may have.

I decided I am going to covert part of our existing shed into a coop. It will be 3x6' and should be fine, but the run I am unsure about. I want to use a section of fence as one side, but it is only 3.5 ft high. I will have the top of the run wired off so the chickens cannot fly out, and predators cannot get in. It will be a pain to clean, though so I am thinking of other solutions. Mainly I want to minimize any extra structures on our property.

I might insulate the coop section to minimize the noise as well.

This should be an adventure! My wife thinks I am nuts.

) is that I don't see many coops in yards over there. Even in places where it seems things are pretty open. I don't see any signs of them. Is it harder to keep chickens on the East side due to more weather extremes? Just curious...

Take a look a my BYC page for an idea of a simple, inexpensive setup. The weekly upkeep is very minimual, I use the deep litter method and haven't cleaned out the coop since March. I do want to add a roof to the run before the winter so they aren't in the mud. I'm keeping on eye on 2 Good 2 Toss and Craigslist for some free or cheap material for the roof. I know they don't need a roof, but...anything for my little chubby chickens.
