Yeah I was expecting maby 10 eggs. lol Emagine my surprise when I found 38! Almost makes me think someone is sneaking in and helping them lay. lol But we are the only ones around our area that has chickens. Hehehe

So, I went out to put the girls to bed, and Lola was bleeding from her head again. Her Comb is really torn. I have her in the house with me(she is currently on my lap) trying to keep her from re-opening the wound. Every time I put her in th crate, I come back to her bleedin all over again. Any ideas on how to get it the bleeding to stay stopped. I have my husband stopping by Del's for some styptic powder of some sort. We are supposed to go to Cle Ellum tomorrow and now I am afraid to go, in fear of what I will come home to on Sat. Any ideas?

Kim - Any chance you can find a friend to either stay with her or keep her overnight. I know you are pretty careful about biosecurity, so maybe a non-chicken family that you know will want an overnight adventure.

I am so happy that Kala has rallied. Maybe she just had a painful arthritis day. Moody has those. He is young enough that they don't take as much out of him. But some days he just doesn't want to get up, even for food.

My mom just picked up some chicken strips with Glucosamine and Chondroitin in them. I am sure they cost a pretty penny. They seem to have put a little bit more spring in his step. Does Kala have a favorite treat or food? I think now would be the time to indulge her a little bit.

I hope you have a couple more years with her. If nothing else this is a reminder to make the best of whatever time we all have with our pets. Thanks for sharing this with us. We will be hoping for a promising report tomorrow after the vet visit. And know that you have friends who support you, whatever is to be.

Ron-
I found this link several years after electing to have a dog euthanized because the vet thought it was a stroke and said her chance of recovery was nil. I later found out the vet was a bit of a quack, and then, much later, I found this information.

My one comfort is that now I can share this information in a timely manner with others facing a similar situation with their beloved animals.

Kim, try liquid bandage (New Skin)
you should be able to find it in the first aid section of any drugstore by the bandaids.

It's what I used on my cockatoos foot when my other cockatoo almost ripped it off. It stings, but it works.

Good idea, I got the bleeding mostly stopped. My DH brought me home some blood stop, but I had to cut off the peice of comb that was waving in the breeze, so I made it bleed more and the stuff only worked partially. But it seems to be ok. If she shakes her head it bleeds a little bit. I feel so bad, her nostriles were kind of plugged with dried blood so I had to clean them out and she is just not very happy with me. I am going to put her and maybe her close pal Roxy together in the "chicken hospital" tomorrow if things look ok. And have the girl next door check on them for me. I will put some liquid bandage on it tomorrow if it still looks weepy. I was SO grossed out by cutting off the piece of comb

, but I read on here that it can be the best way for it to heal cleanly and quickly. I about threw up though. I could never have been a doctor. Thanks for the advice. You know, getting a chicken to hold still is the hardest thing to do. I don't get it I was only trying to help!

Ok I am sorry to see things seem a little serious on here tonight. So here is a little something maybe some can get a little laugh out of.
Last night I was aparently fighting with something in my sleep. I got whacked on the head and it really hurt ( in my sleep?). It hurt SO BAD that it woke me. I woke up and thought no it was just a dream but DANG my head hurts. Put my hand to the pain just above my eye and WOW that really hurts right where that goose egg is.

Then I feel something on my pillow. It was the light from night stand. I got up and when I went and looked in the Bath mirror I had a skint spot on my nose that had sprung a leak that put nice red juice all around my eye. And then there is the goose egg I think it was an EE cause the color is kinda blue green. And that sucker is right where my glasses and hat hit DANG it Jim that hurts!!!

Actually if the girl next door can't check on her, I was going to ask you if you could come over and check on her in the barn on Friday? We get home on Sat. Let me know if that is a possibility. I am going to call the neigbors tomorrow morning. Thanks. Pet Kayla for me.
