I am planning on ordering meat birds from Dunlap hatchery in Idaho. They don't have a lot of different types of breeds, but they do have EE's and Polish for sure. I was told about the hatchery from a couple that lives just west of Enumclaw, who have become certified eggs sellers. They raise red broilers for meat. I was thinking that I would like to try some of the different meat bird this year. Dunlap also carries white egg layers. I keep thinking that it will be easier on the birds and maybe cheaper on the shipping cost to do it this way. I am thinking that I will be ordering sometime in March.

It would have been interesting to see who won... My cockatoo needs her tailfeathers beat, she terrorizes the other two in a horrible way (she's put two holes in my Quaker's beak!!) But I thought better of it. And yes, there are few things that she likes more than chicken. Unless it's cheese... preferably on pizza. Or coffee... she loves sharing my Sunday coffee.

Yes, I know she's not supposed to have it. Like I told Kim, I don't know a lot about chickens, but I've made parrots (and general avian) behavior and needs a good chunk of my life since I was in 7th grade.. a long long LONG time ago.

I'm confused WG.. they're outlawing chickens there but you're ordering more?

I vaguely remember you saying you had a second location, but can you clarify??

Oh, and on a seperate note, DH is threatening to order more bantams. I'm trying to restrain him until we know what's going on!

And he says I'm impulsive and impatient?

Ya, I was wondering who would pick up on that. (You do notice details, don't ya) But I won't clarify some of the details on here. Happy to in person at the party. I can say that I have a couple of friends who have managed to stay under the radar. (Off the beaten path, so not being bothered about their flocks. I am lucky that they don't mind what chickens they have..... They are raising eggs, not chickens. So I get to indulge my whims a bit and can build my permanent flock the way I originally intended. I also have a friend who is out of town who has said that he would let me use his digs for temporary housing until I get my flock just the way I want it. And then there is also my mom, who wants to change things a bit at her house. She wants no two alike, but wants very friendly and tame chickens.

As a girl, my mom's family had a lot of chickens, but they represented work for them, not pets. So for the first time she is really getting in to having them as pets. At first she thought I was crazy, but she is spending a lot of time out in her coop, and one of them likes to hug, so she now wants more that will be demonstrative.
As I find the chickens that are the perfect ones for me, I trade some with the friends, and will rehome others. Currently, I have 3 that I think I want to trade for some that will be more tolerant of Pinky.

Anyway, the new order that I plan to make will be some for my mom, and some to raise to see if their temperament can be good for my flock. In which case, one of my friends will take any that I want to rehome to replace older hens in their coop.

Which reminds me. CookieMomma - I have had a nice couple of days with Pinky, and he is getting to be back to his old self. So at this point, I think I will be keeping him. I am going forward with claiming him as a service animal, and will not need to replace him now. Unless there is some way for the city council to side step the law, I believe they will have to honor his status as a service animal.

I know, laugh all you nay sayers,

but for me, he is just the service animal I need. Now that I am getting netting over the aviary area, I am able to help him keep the girls in, and he is doing a great job of policing them. And he is also quieter. My doctor is amazed at the changes in me regarding my mental health since getting chickens. And the improvement in my physical health has been documented and it is worth the effort that it might take to make this permanent. Now I just hope that it doesn't get too much attention, as the stress of a fight will likely adversely affect my health tremendously.

In case anybody is wondering about the noise factor and Pinky, insulating the coop has worked great. I leave the main door open to the chicken house until 9PM, and the light on in the covered enclosed pen area until 11. I then lock them in the chicken house and shut off the light in the outer area. I then go out at 8AM (OK to make noise time in our town) and he does some initial I'm mad at you crowing until he sees the treats that I fling at him.

Sounds like several on here would like to order with you. Go ahead and see what everybody else wants first. I only want a couple White layers. Really want a couple more Calf. whites(starting to sound like a broken record huh?) And I might get ONE Delaware to get a certain lady that lives on the Coast off my back
tongue.gif
. Might even get a couple extra Calif. whites and drop then off up the street at that nice ladies house. The one that wants to get DUCKS
hu.gif
. I have TWO she can have

OK Ron. Where in the world do you get california whites anyway. Do you have to drive to California for them. I may have to try one, if you are willing to try a delaware. Let me know when you decide to get them, I am probably in for one if it is at a time when I have a couple of other chicks around.
