Ideal hatchery has california whites... and I want some! but I'm probably going to order from my pet chicken because I don't need that many chicks...

I think it was Cackle that was a 15 minimum if people don't want to order 25. I don't know if they have the Californias though. but I've been very happy with my chicks from them.

I know that there are a lot of others who say otherwise, but I won't be ordering from Ideal again myself. I don't know if I got a bad hatch or what, but I had 5/28 keel over within the first week (3 within the first 48 hours) and they screwed up my order too. Yes, they refunded me for the three, but I'm not sure what about STANDARD Brahma vs. BANTAM Brahma they don't understand.

ETA: Also, I got a lot with crooked toes/missing toenails from Ideal as well.

So last night I catch DH looking at McMurray, and then I seriously had to stop myself this morning. Argh.

We got our california white at the Monroe feed store across the street from the fairgrounds .They were something like $2.50-$3.00 each.

If anyone is considering getting a white leghorn, I STRONGLY suggest you get a California White instead. I have both. the Calif. white was sitting in my lap yesterday(she jumped up) The leghorn won't let me even get close to her and the one the coyote got was the same way. The leghorns are a very nervous chicken. My calif. white is the tamest and friendliest of my eight chickens. My Cal white has pretty much laid me a egg every day since the 2nd week of Oct. medium to large size

just came from the coop. 7/7 two white five brown

Oh yah, almost forgot way to go chicken rustler 16/15 ??? one from the DW???

LaSombra
yep, your right they have them. But I would rather go to monroe and pick out my own.

Right......... For most of my neighbors that would work.... But I have one that the closest I could come to that would be Blasted. But we can live in hope. The good news is that she isn't out and about much. So the rest of us only have to deal when she finds fault and acts on it. She is the kind to call the police or the city rather than walking the 50 feet to knock on the door and talk about something. But I wish her blessings too. She used to be a friend. And I wouldn't want to see harm to come to anybody. Maybe a few gremlins in the works, but no serious harm.

One thing is for sure, she won't be putting in an order for chickens anytime soon....

Yeah my leghorns are really flighty too, they've gotten friendlier as they get/got closer to laying age, but my others are much friendlier.

The only ones that I have flightier than my leghorns are the EEs. They're also the dumbest... lol. One can't even figure out how to get into and out of the run, even if she stands and watches all the others do it.

One of my meat birds when I first started this was a leghorn roo. He was much calmer than the hens that I have seen. I don't know how he would have been had he been able to mature more. But on many of the hatchery sites, they use Leghorn as the measuring device of flightiness (ie; Less flighty than a Leghorn)

Anybody have Minorcas? I wonder what they are like?

These are some of the chickens I am thinking of getting from McMurray. I would love to hear what you have heard or experienced with any of them.

Silver Pencilled Rock
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
Salmon Faverolles
White Crested Black Polish - Standard size
White Laced Red Cornish
Egyptian Fayoumis

edited because I forgot the

White Faced Black Spanish
