You have to have a separate aviary which you can also put in Quail, Chukar, Turkeys, Peafowl- together. Until breeding season when you will want to separate to keep from cross breeding.

Question based on this- I have heard that some pheasant species are quite aggressive (the males anyhow). They really don't pick on the itsy bitsy quail?


They are pretty birds.

Maybe someday if I get tired of geese.​

Some of you might remember "The BIG Egg" I was bragging about two months ago. Kim and justbugged have seen it. Well yesterday I got ANOTHER one

its NOT as big as the first one, but definitely BIGGER than the average size egg. It was in the same nest box as the first one.Think it was the same sexlink but not sure. I'm hoping to bring both to the party. The first one has a crack in it cause it froze when it was out in the frig. on the porch in the cold weather

I also have to have zinnias. What is a garden without zinnias? I love the scabious type.

I try to keep a couple catalogs on my bedside and in the bathroom at all times. Ahhhhhh. Garden catalogs keep my imagination going in winter.

Anybody want to share an order with me. I don't do flowers except if they are edible in some way. But I am into almost every type of veg. I also have way more duck pictures than I have family pictures...

I've been looking at the catalogs too! I'm going nuts because I am so broke from my last duck purchase. This year I'm gonna plant my humus garden. I think I can do everything but the sesame. Anyone have a greenhouse that can grow sesame? Gosh, I would love to have some local tahini... I only have a small area to grow edibles, since I'm mostly in shade here, so I have to really plan out what I'm growing.

Has anyone spoken to Mike recently to see if he is still in need of feed? I think I was up again at the beginning of January. If someone has spoken to him, I can purchase two bags on Friday.

Pheasants are very aggressive/ territorial during breeding season. If you have peafowl or quail in the pen it doesn't much matter though.
I think it has to do with the size difference?
I often run different pens with quail in ea.
Helps to off set the mood in their space.
Anytime I have more than one roo pheasant in a pen than they all get the peepers. The min. on them was a hunderd so I've had them for a couple of years now.
Incase I have missed anything.........bummer, tryin' to keep up.

Oh guy's I really need to join you all, in our own neighborhood. I have the llama experience. I just miss them to pieces. The trick with camelids is to spit first. I am fairly good at spitting with a LOT of noise. I really need to join please, oh pretty please. I will even try to be nice most of the time. They don't let me out very much anymore. But I really like everyone I have met so far. Oh it helps that I am really really very scary to coyotes. I think it because they sense I want to make them become chicken dog pets, that and I will look them in the eye with a 22 and I don't blink very much. Can I join can I can I really pretty Please with sugar on it.

Pretty birds. I grew up going to the Phoenix Zoo quite often. They had quite a few peacocks and exotic pheasants that wandered the grounds- I always loved them. The peacocks are far too loud to keep unless you're quite far from your neighbor. Are some of the pheasant breeds as loud?

I find it all interesting.

For instance, I've read that there is not as much variation between the different breeds of geese as far as noise/aggression. I am finding that to be quite untrue. I have three breeds- all reported to be docile as far as geese go.

So far the one that is so quiet that you would hardly know they were there is the dewlap toulouse. The gander is reportedly quite aggressive during breeding season, but currently they are docile.

My buff gander is good for me, but will attack strangers readily.

Sunday I was outside doing yardwork. I had pulled up the fencing around a couple perennial beds, and of course the chickens were in it immediately. As they were scratching up the emerging buds, and searching for worms, I was half heartedly chasing them out. (It was a losing battle) I finally said loudly "Stop that, those are my worms".

Wouldn't you know right then a neighbor came around the corner, through the fence, into my backyard saying "I thought I heard you out here talking"

Thankfully my neighbors mostly all like me. And think the chickens are cool.

As far as Michael is concerned I think he is about out. I think Kim was the last to buy a bag for him. I'd kind of forgotten about that in the hectic holiday rush. Shall we continue? I can do more w/o difficulty.

BTW- I finally joined the 20th century. Paid my first bill on-line a few minutes ago. Maybe by 2020 I'll be in the 21st century.
