Hello, I live in So Ca and this is a copy of the e-mail that I sent To [email protected]

I have read the draft printed on the proposed regulation of pet care and pet food facilities in King Co Washington scheduled for public hearing on January 21, 2010. The participants of Web Resources relating to those of use who raise poultry in our back yards for our personal use are concerned that these regulations could set a precedent for regulation in our areas. And although I live in another area, I wish to express my ideas.

In general the target of the law does appear to be safety of the public, however lines 35 to 39 of the draft exempt the county from liability if any harm to the public does result from unsafe practices or disregard of the regulations. So exactly what prohibits the pet care facilities from passing inspection and then ignoring the regulation and safe practices during other times . If the local government is not held equally responsible as the owner and operators of the stated facilities the field is wide open for graft. Is payment of a few hundred dollars expected to result in safe regulation without culpability ?

Furthermore, in consideration of the potentiality of the law to regulate private homes who raise poultry in their back yards please weight the feasibility of enforcement and question the need for such a cost to taxpayer for that regulation. The burden of private homes to pay addition costs is unfounded . Most home owners who raise poultry do so to benefit from satisfaction of raising their own safe food supply. Of the 15K plus reported citizens made ill by food born pathogens the majority were found to be caused by unsafe practices in hugh commercial production industries.

Money spent by local regulatory agencies would be better spent supporting local smaller food producers. Their product would be more fresh , nutritious and safer than indifferent congonerant industries. Local producers would be interested in providing better foods to their neighbors. They would have no business otherwise.

Thanks for the back-up guys. It is helpful to have others put my thoughts into words. Sometimes I just can't form a concise statement. Yours is just what I meant Rainplace.

In my case, I am fighting my own chicken battles here at home. Taking on King County as well just isn't something I can do very easily. But if someone had the groundwork laid and could just show me where to sign a petition or something like that, I would. I would gladly!

I think the people who this is affecting the most may need to get going on more of a plan for making a change that everyone can get behind.

This is why I sometimes hesitate to even bother commenting. It's just like emails, they can often be misconstrued. Let me try to clear some things up.

First of all WG, my comments were not meant as a direct or personal attack on you. They were meant for everyone. Secondly, I don't think Greg or myself were trying to criticize you or anyone else. Of course our point is to try to get others to "come on board" or get involved and of course it's not "just to make you feel bad". Anyone who knows either of us I think would agree with that. I also don't see how I quoted you out of context but there's no sense in beating a dead horse.

I am also officially disabled but I just don't bring it up because there are a lot of other folks, military or otherwise, you I know are a whole lot worse off than myself and I often don't even feel qualified to be receiving such benefits. Having said that, please understand that poultry is a hobby for me and NOT a business! I believe the definition of a business is something that makes you money and a hobby is something that costs you money. My poultry most certainly falls into the latter category. I am self-employed and own a recruiting company that is a business but is totally separate from my poultry hobby.

For you to say, "Or in my case and others, we do this because we simply must do this. We do not have the resources that you and others have to learn this because of all kinds of reasons.", I would have to ask two questions. First, who or what if forcing you to do this and second how do you know that you don't have the resources that me and others do to "learn this"? As far as I know, you know nothing about me so how can you make that judgment?

As for, "And most importantly, you have to understand that in a persons daily life there a million causes that come along. Help us to figure this out, and we might be able to help.", I think that is exactly what both Greg and I have done. Trust me, I am by far no means the brightest bulb in the socket. The link is there for anyone to go to and read. From there both Greg and I have talked about the slippery slope and the dangers of this legislation if passed. I honestly don't know what more that I could say to help anyone understand this better. It's this simply, if the Government is allowed to pass this then it is an open door to more regulation, more taxes, and more invasion into your home.

God Bless,

Donna, I haven't seen any of your requests or I would've responded. Now, to your three questions... Who do you call? It is listed on the link and I believe either I or Greg posted it here as well. Who do you write? Same thing. Same for the where you should show up.

Sorry you found my last few posts offensive. They weren't met to be. But I see you had no problem agreeing with this...

Mike, there was no call for that cheap shot. I'll keep that in mind. As far as I know I've never done anything to you in all the times we've talked. In fact, I just sent someone your way for some Marans. I won't be doing that again.

Btw, I was just about to sit down and write a couple of emails. One to say that my check for $20 is in the mail and the other to send my recipe for the raccoon chili. However, after reading these last several posts, I'll just say I hope you all enjoy yourselves. You are one little click that I obviously don't need to be a part of.

See Ya!

Royce, I don't feel like part of a click, never really liked them much.

If you can't see how your last couple of posts have been a bit accusatory towards those of us that don't know what's going on with all this poultry stuff, then I don't know what to say. I hope you're just having a bad day and decide to come back around. I and others greatly enjoy having you here on the forums.

Donna

Royce

I am not going to beat this dead horse. But I will say, that I actually thought you were made of sterner stuff. I hope you don't go away. We are all expressing opinions and discussing why we don't agree. Agreement is not necessary in friendships.... But the ability to discuss why you might not agree with something someone has said should be. You made quite a few shots at those of us who might not have your commitment toward this cause.

I really think you're not helping it by saying educate yourselves like I have. We asked you to elaborate for us. I can't see that you have. I will continue to feel like this is a bad idea. But I am neither enlightened about it nor in any way more supportive after your posts. That is unfortunate.

Mike. Not sure if your comment about Royce was your way of a joke or you were serious?
If serious, that is the opposite of what my experience has been.

I have had some long telephone conversations with Royce.
Also went to his place for a visit. Had a wonderful time.
In all my conversations with him which some were about what can be for some very touchy subjects not once did I ever detect anything but respect for our conversation.

Royce came on here as a hobbyist who like mostly everyone of us here has a passion for what he does.
Animals for most fill very important roles in our lives.

I appreciate his passion for bringing that information to the board.

There was absolutely no intent what so ever to put anyone down.

There was intent to inform us and help us all get on track for keeping aware of what is going on behind the scenes to control, or tax everything we own.
